Typically about 7% of the viewing public actually vote in the ESC. They rarely vote multiple times for the same act, but will vote for multiple acts.

You can vote twenty times for one act from the same phone number, it's not difficult to see how a politically motivated vote can dominate the public vote.

Israel's entry was a less than memorable solo female ballad in a year where France, Switzerland, Albania, fielded similar and Spain, Finland, Poland, Malta, Denmark had single female acts with very distinctive performances. Luxembourg was a throwback poppy style and sat in its own category.

It's beyond reasonable to suggest Israel's entry dominated such a crowded competition. Sweden and Estonia split the quirky, comedy vote for example.

Israel should not be allowed to enter, it's a travesty that they are there and, had they won, I believe at least two nations would have boycotted next year.

That's the point I suppose you do see some genuinely really good performers here and there though and some really funny/creative ones splashed in, like Estonia & Sweden.
