2024/25 Ashley Young

Glad he's gone. Pretty well half decent during his time here and slotted into whatever position he was asked to play but time catches up with us all and we really don't want 40-year olds in the squad. It frees up his wages for someone younger and, hopefully, with greater potential and longevity. Sick of us being a pensioners/old boys club. That's why we have struggled to progress for years.

….its not the fact we play a 39yo, it’s the fact that he’s mainly superior to what else we have. A reflection of our transfer strategy.

Mostly average performances but I think his attitude cannot be questioned and all in all a decent signing given the state of the club and with heads and morale dropping so easily amongst an extremely fragile and psychologically weak squad. Thanks Ash, happy retirement.

I’d like to think that, despite their age and less time on the pitch, a large part of us staying up and the young lads never giving up came from behind the scenes. All the training, halftime speeches, on the pitch encouragement from the likes of experienced veterans like Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman can’t be overstated. Their leadership goes a long way and taught our younger players how to keep fighting with everything you’ve got through adversity.
