They're up for it I guess if they can get through the game without being exposed by the opposition too much or being bailed out by the cb's or gana, that's about where it's at if Coleman or Young are on the pitch next season another year older.

DCL, I wasn't even aware he was sticking around, my frothing as you put it is purely at having the above 2 mentioned in our squad.

Well, having seen the Coleman comment, that says to me, he'll be retiring. He's played in 4 games this season.

Ashley Young has been absolutely fine this season. He's done exactly what he's needed to do, which is fill in.

Midfield is a far greater priority for us than back up full backs. We've not got an unlimited amount of money to spend. I'd rather focus where our greater needs are that be fuming at back ups.

Please elaborate who you'd sign?

And how they'd make us better.

Baring in mind that in 12 months time when we're in a far more strong position, when we can actually sign first choice players, they'll still have lengthy time on their contracts remaining.

Oh the typical "Well give us the names"

Mate we have a staff employed and paid good wages to identify targets. That's THEIR job, not mine.

If they can't identify targets for these positions offering better value than Young and Coleman then I honestly despair.

What will waiting for the window to open or close do to make signing ancient full backs look like a good decision?

Preach patience all you want but patience won't take 20 years off of their legs will it?

Are they going to be sleeping in hyperbaric chambers or eating stem cells all summer window or something? I don't see how that's going to impact my assessment of this decision at all.

Well, I mean, it's telling I said you were having a meltdown. And you didn't disagree, you're kinda just owning it.

Of course it's possible to sign 8 players in one window, but how do you think team would perform then? 8 players to try and integrate whilst the fans want improvement.

What would you rather have:

Sign 8 players and possibly struggle near the bottom again.
Be more pragmatic and rise up the table.

I know which id prefer. It's about being realistic.
I could understand what you're saying if the players out of contract weren't a mix of ancient, useless or both. Letting Coleman, young, keane, doucoure and dcl go isn't going to hold us back at all. Laziness and sticking to what's had us nearly getting relegated will.

Why are you acting like it would cost an arm and a leg to find more useful players than a 36 and a 39 year old?

There are going to be hundreds of players that could possibly fill this role for reasonable value for money.

Just signing the players we have here today is laziness and nothing else.

Not sure what kind of miracles youre expecting, but is it really as bad as youre making out?
Miracles? A new full back? That we've needed for years now? I knew our expectations had got really low but calling requests for basic squad needs "miracles" is hyperbole in extremis. Are you happy with our RB options being Ashley Young, Seamus Coleman and an out of position centre half? If not, and you think we should sign a RB, like anyone with eyes, then why are we resigning Young and, apparently, Coleman?

The "typical"... youre the one who's annoyed. You've literally said

"There are plenty of players under 30 we can sign on a free for a back up full back role. There's absolutely no decent reason for this tbh."

So I'm stopping here. Contradicting yourself.

Yes it's the typical lazy response from people who are happy with the status quo "Well what would YOU do?"

It doesn't invalidate any of the criticism, it just puts the onus on me to throw names out in a pointless exercise.

I don't see what's controversial about expressing disappointment that we are re-signing players aged 36 and 39 to play Premier League footy.

Kyle Walker-Peters. Free, decent, 12 years younger than Ashley Young.

I've got this remarkable ability to be concerned about other areas on the pitch and still fume about back up players too. They're not mutually exclusive positions to take.

No I just disregarded it as your labelling it a meltdown doesn't impact the validity of what I'm saying.

It just shows you don't have a decent argument to make, which was clear.

If you don't see the writing on the wall for this summer I don't know what to tell you.

My argument, which is sound, is you judging the summer based on two signings (which haven't even happened yet, by the way) is a bit daft. It has little to do with Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman.

I haven't judged the summer, it hasn't happened yet.

I've made a prediction on how it is likely to go based on the strong evidence of us signing 36 and 39 year old players to new contracts.

I think it's more than fair to suggest that announcing we are looking to sign 36 and 39 year old players to new contracts is going to correspond to an immediate lowering of my expectations for this upcoming window.
