They're not up to it in any way, shape or form. And they're only an injury away to a starting player to becoming regular starters themselves.

Sorry, in what sense are they "not up to it".

Ashley Young, opening day aside, has had a remarkably solid season given his age.

The reality is, we need to strengthen far more areas than back up full back.

Moyes clearly thinks he can get a tune out of DCL. Whilst I'm not a fan, until you know exactly what our budget is this summer, you can't be frothing st decisions.

It's not football manager, and we're still hamstrung by FFP, as we continue to make losses.

I cant tell you how concerning that tripe is for this summer: "Yeah, that's right Dunc, it's all about smart buying...we get ourselves in trouble when we have money to spend".

Honest to God: if anyone is harbouring any ideas that we'll see a big spend here they need to shelve them or they''ll be chewing their hands off all summer long.
They spent money at Roma ,Dave, who hurt you so bad? Oh Everton football club me too , but eventually you have be willing to trust in things again also if you're right which recently it's been a very low hit rate in regards to your predictions, you can boast about how prescient you were.

It's May 16th and we are signing our back up full backs who have a combined age of 97. What conclusions should we draw instead oh enlightened one?

If you don't see the writing on the wall for this summer I don't know what to tell you.

Perhaps at least wait until the window opens, or God forbid closer to when it closes. Enjoy your Friday.

What will waiting for the window to open or close do to make signing ancient full backs look like a good decision?

Preach patience all you want but patience won't take 20 years off of their legs will it?

Are they going to be sleeping in hyperbaric chambers or eating stem cells all summer window or something? I don't see how that's going to impact my assessment of this decision at all.

Some of you are living in cloud cuckoo land of you genuinely think we can overhaul this squad in one window. It would cost far to much.

We have to be pragmatic and spend wisely. Look what happened the last time we blew £500m, it didn't end well. So yeah I'm happy we take it step by step and if that means retaining some of the current players but also Improving I'm fine with that.

These things take a little time, Chelsea spent over £1bn in a short amount of time and it hasn't really improved them, in fact it's made them worse...
Oh come off it mate.

It's not impossible to find reasonable players on a free under 35 to fill a back up full back role.

Can we stop making ridiculous arguments that we will bankrupt the club if we don't sign our OAP players back?

Maybe try reading what I said :D

I said it's not possible to do it in ONE window. It will take a few windows. Wind it in mate and chill. Our owners are better than the last lot... I hope.

At least 10 players are set to leave this summer , how much money do people think we'll be able to spend even if we do have some degree of financial capacity along with recruiting new players. We're not bringing in 15-18 players in new deals and loans , so some pragmatic deals still need to be made despite how unexciting they are. Some fans live in a fantasy land

I got the impression that Seamus is being kept on in either a coaching capacity or a similar behind the scenes role and not as a player so I think he'll announce his playing retirement at the end of the season. As for Ashley Young again I think he's being kept on for his impact on the dressing room and will play very few games next season but if that's not the case and he's being used as someone who'll play double figures in games then that will be a very regressive decision

Come on pal, it's possible to sign 8 players in a window.

It's possible to find back up full backs under 35 on reasonable wages. This shouldn't be a controversial statement to make.

I don't know why people want to pretend that we are handcuffed into signing these players. We aren't, it just smacks of doing the easy thing.

Of course it's possible to sign 8 players in one window, but how do you think team would perform then? 8 players to try and integrate whilst the fans want improvement.

What would you rather have:

Sign 8 players and possibly struggle near the bottom again.
Be more pragmatic and rise up the table.

I know which id prefer. It's about being realistic.

They're up for it I guess if they can get through the game without being exposed by the opposition too much or being bailed out by the cb's or gana, that's about where it's at if Coleman or Young are on the pitch next season another year older.

DCL, I wasn't even aware he was sticking around, my frothing as you put it is purely at having the above 2 mentioned in our squad.

How does it make practical sense to sign players north of 35?

There's hundreds of other players we could attract.

It's just laziness.

Please elaborate who you'd sign?

And how they'd make us better.

Baring in mind that in 12 months time when we're in a far more strong position, when we can actually sign first choice players, they'll still have lengthy time on their contracts remaining.

These two are back up full backs we are talking about so the integration isn't really a massive issue. There's nothing unrealistic about that.

It's not like Coleman or Young playing make us a better team do they?

The fact is there are plenty of other players that aren't over 35 that we could get in for this job but we are doing the easy thing and just handing contracts out for the lads Moyes likes to have around because he doesn't speak Gen Z.
