2024/25 Joao Virginia

I would say so (see Doucouré's comment under the post) and I have no problems with that. Having said that, I would have preferred for him to have been offered a new contract as I have always rated him as a decent goalkeeper. An ideal scenario for him now would be to end up at a Championship club (or similar) and string together a run of games.

Bobble has said the same as well

I thought he did well the few times he was called up to fill in. Goalkeeper is a tough position to get a brake into a team, especially as we have been lately having poor runs in the cups, and not having European football, its hard to give a second keeper game time. It would be great to have him tied down to a new deal, and get him loaned out where he would be playing every week, and should we need him back just be able to recall him. All very well having Englands No 1, but you`re a freak injury away from having a poor keeper having to take over if you don`t have a second quality one that can be called back.

i dont begrude him wanting to leave. he really ought to

it's a bit strange we haven't offered him a deal though. he's a solid back up

Kinda sorry to see the lad go. Although he hasn't been given many opportunities I don't personally recall him making any real howlers, been dependable between the sticks and, dare I say, a much better keeper than the clown at ManUre. He's still young for a keeper with, potentially, his best years ahead of him but he does need regular first team football if he's going to make his mark. Reckon we will hear much more about him when he's established at another club but hope it's not a detrimental decision by us to let him go now given that Pickford probably has only another two to three years at his current level.

All the best young man - you've bought into Everton but, perhaps, been a tad unfortunate to be playing second fiddle to the incumbent England No.1.
