Homepage Article Goodison Park to become the permanent home of Everton Women

Sunday is massive. The guys have played there since like forever. It deserves the goodbye it will get.

It is brilliant that Goodison will remain, great for the womens team, great that fans can still go along to the ground.
Very true indeed and i'm glad that we've been spared the awful feeling of knowing, that a place with such history was going to be demolished.

Looks great, they should offer men’s STH half price season tickets or discounted match day tickets for the women’s team to get numbers in and grow attendances.

They will take down those upper tiers before then.

I doubt very much that they will. If anything, the old Leitch stands are structurally over-engineered to hold far bigger capacity than they do now (hence the numerous obstructed views). As Simon Inglis stated recently, they would comfortably last for generations longer, if allowed to. File this with all the previous lies about the impending failures of safety certificates..... (20yrs on, and still counting). You might also file it with the assurances made to the Shareholders that he would fund the stadium to completion if finances could not be secured.

If there has been any structural deterioration identified requiring additional or replacement "pillars", that would have to be implemented before a safety cert was granted, not by a predetermined date. However, even if that was the case.... LFC fitted additional supports to their old Anfield Rd stand upper tier after Celtic fans almost buckled it, at minimal cost. It's just another throw away line with little or no substance.

Just seems pointless to me. 38k stadium that’s only ever going to get a few thousand in. Would have been better flattening it and creating the women their own version of Goodison. Like a 10k stadium with all the mod con’s.
Women's footy is growing year on year. I went to a friendly between England and USA this year. 78,000 there. 10 years ago it would have been nowhere near that. 20 years ago probably only a few hundred. A 10,000 stadium with all the mod cons is modern until the next shiny stadium comes along and then it isn't. Look at all the flat pack stadiums we have around the country and they are all instantly forgettable. Tell young girls that they will play at Goodison if they become a professional footballer and that actually means something. I am made up that we are doing this. Why would we want to flatten the most iconic stadium in the country when it can continue to be lead the way in developing the game as it has throughout its history. My 10 year old daughter did the tour and was blown away by it. I'd much rather be showing her how Everton have a women's stadium that they can be rightfully proud of just the like the men do. UTFT

Would rather see it demolished and replaced with something worthwhile and tasteful. Keeping the stadium for women's football is not sustainable the annual costs against takings will be astronomical, the grand old lady will be demolished this is stalling tactics..
I'm all for the continuing development of woman's football but this will just eat money.

I just don't see how this is sustainable. Even with all the reductions to the place we're still looking at 25k plus. I appreciate that the woman's game is fast growing but I think its a bit delusional to imagine we'd be able to jump from 2k to 25k. I went to the woman's derby at Klanfield earlier this month and there was something like 15k there. Bare in mind that this is the biggest game of the season and it had the novelty of not happening every week. What will Goodison be like for the ladies against say a Brighton?

Tasteful? It's one of the most iconic and recognisable stadiums in world football.

It can readily become a world class working heritage stadium and museum and comfortably accommodate all of the women's team's needs for years to come.
