Homepage Article Goodison Park to become the permanent home of Everton Women

I would have thought remodelling the ground and reducing its capacity and improving sight lines would be the way to go.

Do the women’s team need a 39k stadium ? It would be better in a refurbished 25k GP with better comfort and facilities in my view

Just an opinion
It will be circumstances that decides which way this will go. A lot will depend on how the club as a whole develop over the next 2-3 years.

Scenario 1; (Hopefully!) Men's team go from strength to strength, challenging for Europe places and domestic cups, always filling Bramley Moore, womens team getting regularly towards 10,000 and becoming one of the big boys (actually big girls) in the WSL, Friedkin Group are popular within the fanbase. The club will be ambitious to expand and develop further.

Scenario 2 (Depressing but possible); We are Everton so we cannot rule out the following; Mens team continue to struggle, languishing in the lower reaches of the Premier League, sturgid football, Bramley Moore starts to show empty spaces, unrest increases, no progress with the womens team which consistently attracts less than 5,000, Goodison looking increasingly unviable, Friedkin group reluctant to splash out what is REALLY needed, gets booed and vitriol towards them online shoots through the roof. Goodison gets knocked down and Friedkin group are looking for a way out. Fan headlocks Mr. Friedkin in a rare visit to BM.

We forget how progressive the game has become and how much a sausage fest goodison was for such a long time, my own daughter refused to go cos she didn’t like the gt5 vibes, I should have known better and obviously that’s like throwing a child into Normandy in some games so it’s on me… but if the ground is home to the ladies. I hope it encourages more ladies to attend. It’s very obvious most lads HATE women’s footy, and that’s fine, I’d watch two flies playing footy if there as a choice and more footy around the city is always a good thing.

Personally I find this bizarre. Plenty of women I know young and old have never found that experience going to goodison.

Great to hear that Goodison is staying around, although a few people on Facebook feel that the big goodbye on Sunday will be an anticlimax as such now.

I would be inclined to agree we were building ourselves up emotionally for the big goodbye, but even though the mens team are leaving Goodison is still staying around.

Still though i'm glad that Goodison Park will continue to exist as a sporting venue.
Sunday is massive. The guys have played there since like forever. It deserves the goodbye it will get.

It is brilliant that Goodison will remain, great for the womens team, great that fans can still go along to the ground.

I don’t get all the talk of completely reconfiguring the stadium and rebuilding stands.. will cost a fortune for no reason.

They will close the top tiers, put banners there or what have you. And they will try and attract more fans - it’s pretty much the fastest growing sport in the country, why would we permanantly cut capacity and take away the USP that we have.

Probably still got the Covid era banners.

This is what it means and why it’s bloody brilliant.

My 11yo daughter’s reaction was similar, a few less tears, but she’s overjoyed the girls are getting Goodison.

She has been lucky enough to be the mascot for the women at wally hall park, and the players and staff were amazing with her, the fans are great, it was a brilliant day, and everything would have be even better at GP.

She’s asked can we go to games next season or even get a season ticket for the women, I’m very tempted and will definitely be going to a few women’s games next season.

I think it’s a game changer for Everton women and the women’s games as a whole.
Same with my daughter who's a similar age. She actually told me about it as she'd seen it on the news and I thought it was just about the study they were doing. Found out it was the announcement that the women are going to play there and her little face lit up. We'd been together to the Bournemouth cup game this season to say our goodbyes and she was heartbroken that it would be our last, all I'm hearing now is "when are we going back to Goodison Dad". 💙

She plays footy as well and the amount of girls teams at grass roots level surprised me, can only see the women's game getting bigger and bigger. Told her that she needs to get good enough to play for Everton and I might be able to sit in the posh seats. 😂

My daughter plays too mate, has done for a while, and I said similar to here - get good will yer! 🤣🤣

Hopefully in the future we are both in the posh seats as our girls run out in the royal blue.

She loves playing footy, maybe even more than watching the game tbh.

I delighted and proud that women’s and girls footy is being backed and supported by Everton so strongly, especially after women were told they couldn’t play the game for so many years.

It always disgusted me how huge the women’s game was, with the Dick Kerr ladies etc, only for it to be broken, dismantled and held back by idiotic, jealous men for far too long.
