Homepage Article Goodison Park to become the permanent home of Everton Women

On one hand it's good news that Goodison Park is being preserved.

On the other I just can't see how it will be financially viable.

Perhaps it's one to wait and see what they do with the old lady, maybe reduce the stands or something.

The last thing we really want is it to become a millstone round our neck, draining resources.

Women's games won't make the sort of money we would need to keep the place operational and your not likely to have much more for reserve or youth games.

Perhaps if they made it into a big museum for the club and continued doing tours.

I don't know. We will have to see.

Resources aren't a concern. This will not hit PSR either (at least not negatively, positively as has been mooted above).

I'm far more likely to go to a WSL game now. Never been to one.
Easier to get to and more boozers about.

Ipswich was my last game but I'm glad I will be able to go again. My grandad worked on the ground staff years and years ago. He's the reason I'm a blue (and my dad). They are both gone so I'm delighted Goodison will remain.

Crowds in the women’s game are only going one way. All clubs will have to look at the prospect of either sharing their main ground, expanding their women’s team stadium, or building new ones. We won’t have to and can start benefitting from larger crowds immediately.

Largest dedicated women’s stadium in the WSL. Another first for the originals.

Now the ladies are to play there we might win something lol.

Serious, I am delighted by this. Can only be a good thing for the womens team, and old gits like me can go along and reminisce. 1974 my pops first took me to Goodison, I will be nice to go along still and cheer on the girls.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the ground, surely it will not stay in its same format?

All for the women's team getting a stadium but goodison costs millions to keep it standing, unless they completely remodel the other stands apart from the park end I don't see how this makes sense?

Did they deem the goodison legacy project too expensive?

It costs a lot to rent Haig Avenue and WHP too. We will already have maintenance staff for both BMD and Finch farm, so maintenance costs in terms of staff needn't be significantly more. Especially for smaller crowds (initially). The fact is the Women's team need a larger stadium than WHP. That wouldn't be free or cheap, and we might not even own it. We have a world famous alternative!

Aside from that, I think there is also massive opportunity for Goodison to become a world-class working Heritage Football stadium and museum.... the Everton Collection, renowned for being the largest club collection in the world, could be permanently housed and exhibited. Where could be better than the site of the world's first purpose built football stadium?

We also maintain that presence in our historic heartlands and preserve that famous face-off across Stanley Park.

There could be any number of reconfiguration options to repurpose the stadium for the Women's and Youth teams. The Old Leitch stands could be partly or completely preserved as the finest collection of his work still in existence. Much of the mainstand could be redeveloped to include major community facilities etc with the enclosure, Boxes and corporate lounges still available for Football supporters. Maybe even the Top Balcony could become a multi-screen community cinema..... who knows? The possibilities are almost endless.

As I've said before.... I think this is a WIN WIN WIN decision.
