Homepage Article Goodison Park to become the permanent home of Everton Women

I think this is really good news. The ground wouldn't have fetched that much money, the women will have a great ground with fantastic history, and people who's ashes are scattered there will still be remembered and not buried under a car park or supermarket. If they can do a proper job and keep the lower tiers, and the whole of the Park End it could be good.

At least we’ll have a spare ground for when the new one is shutdown due Final Destination style fatalities, involving flying wind turbine blades and mass crush events at the Indiana Jones Temple of Doom entrances.
It's weird, though, nearly twenty years ago the World's Greatest Living Evertonian (self-appointed) told us that Goodison wouldn't get a safety certificate and that we had to move to a Halfords in Kirkby and yet here we are in the distant future looking forward to decades more football. Funny how things work out!

overall I like the idea. My only gripe is that I’d rather the women moved it once the remodelling of the stadium is done.

Feels a shame that Goodison as it stands isn’t going out with the fanfare of Sunday. Instead, the reality is, we’re going to have a half closed stadium hosting women’s games while it’s tore down bit by bit.

I’d feel it was much more fitting for them to move into a remodelled goodison that is the first purpose women’s stadium.
While It’s good for the womens team and club as a whole, the sunday event is now a massive anti climax. Celebrating it while knowing football is still going to be played and I can still go and visit every week or two has killed it.

On one hand it's good news that Goodison Park is being preserved.

On the other I just can't see how it will be financially viable.

Perhaps it's one to wait and see what they do with the old lady, maybe reduce the stands or something.

The last thing we really want is it to become a millstone round our neck, draining resources.

Women's games won't make the sort of money we would need to keep the place operational and your not likely to have much more for reserve or youth games.

Perhaps if they made it into a big museum for the club and continued doing tours.

I don't know. We will have to see.

I think people have a different perception of American business people than me.

This is just cheaper than the regeneration which is why it’s happening.

Great for the women’s game and all that but it’s a financial decision and nothing more than that. They don’t care about the local community or growing the women’s game.

Shame for the area imo.

That is my gut feeling on it.

The "cheapest" thing to do is to keep the women at Walton Hall Park or disband the team altogether.

Is this cheaper than building the women a new stadium? Perhaps, but I doubt there will be anything cheap about renovations and the like.

They're investing in the women's team, they think there is a return there. I'm not sure being cheap has much to do with it.
