Super League 2025

10.15pm the match finished last night. The Ellis try kinda summed things up. He was moving fairly slowly, and Kendall was no more than a metre away, yet he still sent it upstairs.
It amazes me that the video referee needs to check the grounding when it is obvious to every man and his dog that a player has grounded the ball. Whilst there will be tries were the grounding remains unclear, there is absolutely no point in checking the grounding when a player has nobody else near him and is able to ground the ball.

Take Nsemba's try last night. Quite rightly there was an offside check by the video referee but there is no reason to check grounding when the nearest Leigh players appear to be metres away from him and everyone can see that he has grounded the ball. Just a thought for how they can save time on the video referee, although it is worth factoring in Eckersley's injury when explaining last night's late finish.

I thought Wigan could have still played better tonight despite triumphing by a scoreline of 46 - 6. Too many handling errors and cheap mistakes in a game which was a real opportunity to pile on the points for the purpose of points difference. One standout error was Jai Field's error at the beginning of the second half when under little pressure.

On a side note, it is saddening to see what is happening at Salford, a club which have bought plenty to the table over the past few years through excellent recruitment. One thing that they have going for them is their loyal core of supporters, who continue to back their players in the most testing of circumstances. Hopefully they can get some proper owners through the door, or else they would be a major loss to the competition.

Wigan have been sloppy the past few weeks, yet have still scored around 100 points for just 6 conceded. We're lethal in attack but do feel like we're going through the motions at the moment and there are so many errors each game.

On an un-related note, it seems typical of Super League that there is so much confusion over whether players are limited in game time this season or not. I think Nsemba, for instance, can play just 6 more games this season if the rules are in force.
