2024/25 Beto

Good post and I agree let him go at our peril, 10 in 17 is Lukaku standards. We could not afford a striker with them goal stats and a great first touch and control. He would be the last striker I would get rid of, maybe employ a striker coach, big Dunc maybe to work on his hold up play.
We'll swap him with Gnonto. Beto will score the goals to keep Leeds up and Gnonto will score 1 goal all season for us

He has been really important for us since january. But still not sure if we should keep him. Looking at his goal-match ratio we should definately stick with him but he scores most goals from counterattacking. His technique is so bad that you cant use him in buildup/team play though. If we want to play possessionfootball next season I think we shouldn't keep him (or maybe as a backup) and be better off getting a striker who can hold the ball. If we want to go for a counter-attacking style of play he just might be a very good fit. Difficult...

But to end on a positive note: he plays with his heart and gives everything every game. Good lad!
If he had a great first touch we could never afford him. Scores goals...

It’s not really 10 in 17 though is it?

Yes he’s scored 10 this season, and yes he’s started 17 games. We can’t just ignore the other appearances though.

Goals per minute he does have a very good record though.
I’m not his biggest fan by any stretch, but I’m finding it more difficult to argue against him

He's a goalscorer, those don't grow on trees. Get the right players round him to create chances and he has the physical attributes and finishing ability to put them away. Think the rumours are nonsense but absolute madness imho if we let him go

He's similar to Lukaku who also had a trampoline touch but he remains by far the best centre forward we've had since last winning the title - you could focus on his downsides all day but fact is if you have a player who's good at certain things you may as well use it to your advantage

Some players just kick the ball in the net and aren't great at anything else. They're rare these days but Beto is one of them.

Agreed. But that isnt want I meant. Keeping him is more about the style of play we want to go for next season. If we are going to play possessionfootball he has less space available to him and he doesnt have the right skillset for that. No disrespect to him or his qualities but possessionfootball asks for a different kind of striker. I think he would be far less dangerous in these situations and will score less. His style is very well suited for counterattacking though, where there is a lot of space behind the opponents defence. If we are going for that style of play, I think we should definately keep him. But which playstyle we actually go for is up to the staff ofcourse, so they will have to think about stuff like this.

We're not Man City mate. It would be a big risk to try and change our style. There's a fair chance we'd have a season like Leicester have just had, where you try and play possession football and get picked off by better teams who then break on you and you get tonked every week.
