2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

Lies, damp lies, and statistics, chaps. It's quite correct that short term stats can be very misleading, and significantly influenced by luck and passing factors. It's equally valid to say that raw stats can benefit from additional analysis in their interpretation. I'm not sure that any of us knows for certain what all this means, but it's good to see the discussion remaining reasonably civil.

We sort of have to though don’t we, because we are unable to go around throwing daft fees about. We need about 8 new first team players.

….we do but I’m not in the camp that thinks you have to pay £50m for top players. I think that’s part of the problem we’ve had.

Ipswich had a 21yo loanee on Saturday that cost £9m. He ran past our full back like he wasn’t there and stuck one in the top corner from 30 yards. I dare say he’d cost us £30m now but that’s where we have to be innovative and smart in our dealings. We pay people lots of money to get these things right.

I don’t pretend to know if Alcaraz is the answer, I don’t think any of us truly know, it’s why I’m totally ambivalent to him staying or going. There’s talent out there, it’s not easy to find but that’s why they earn big bucks.

If a manager has to play a defensivish player in attacking positions to compete, the manager isn't worth his weight in salt. You can get players with flair and ability to press and close space. It is on the manager to build a system as opposed to relying on headless chickens to do the dirty work. You teach talent. Alcaraz has talent. Unlock it.
