Today’s Football - 2024/25 Season

Coventry bring nothing the the table in the top flight - another Brentford, Bournemouth or Fulham just happy to peacefully co-exist along side the scab six.

The Premier League has reached a point where it doesn’t matter if you peacefully co-exist or try to disrupt the status quo, unless you have a certain level of annual revenue (starting at €400m in 2020 according to Deloitte, will be higher now) then you are basically pissing in the wind.

The figures above are from 2022/23 but show the disparity. United and Spurs have reached a European final despite having ‘bad’ seasons. Newcastle are the closest to bridging the gap, but that is with the backing of an oil state, and even then it will be difficult due to financial rules that are designed to maintain the current hierarchy.

It’s basically a closed shop and anyone outside of those top six clubs is just there to make up the numbers. Doesn’t matter if it’s Coventry, Everton, or Accrington Stanley.

I like how there's a few (one especially) that've nailed their colours to the mast re how poor the PL is.

chelsea likely win the europa conference whatever cup, and it's an all PL final in the europa league second fiddle cup.

arsenal made the semi's of the CL.

There's some mirth to be a-making...
