2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

There is a set of things that basically sum up my entire conceptualization of Doucoure before the comments:
  • Sitting on the ball during warmups because he wasn't picked. Every time I remember it, I just shake my head at how he ever played for Everton again afterwards, let alone got a contract extension.
  • The fact that in 13 years as a professional, he has finished the season on a team in the top half of its league table exactly twice (once in 9th, once in 10th)
  • That time that Ellis Simms took a ball near the halfway line and played him through with a perfect diagonal, giving Doucoure yards of space unmarked, but Doucoure basically tripped over the ball and nothing came of it (Simms did the same thing on the other side to Iwobi, who drew a penalty, in a different game)
  • He's supposedly out there as some pressing superstar or something (because he is genuinely so bad in attack that's the only thing he could be picked for) but is in reality not particularly proficient in winning the ball, and the two people who should've been in his spot this whole time (Charly and Ndiaye) are actually significantly better than him defensively while offering a lot more in attack.
Should be put on gardening leave for the remainder of his contract. Terrible player with an atrocious attitude. As has been said many, many times, yeah he scored that goal, but he was absolutely one of the main reasons we were down there in the first place.

People love to talk about the goal that kept us up but not the stupid petulant red card against Spurs for trying to gauge Harry Kane’s eyeballs out that cost us two points, led to a 3 game suspension and put us in the position where we needed the last day goal in the first place.

I blame the ref then kane for that. kane goes through one of our players and doucoure went and fronted him for it, should have broke his jaw. ref should have intervened and applied the rules of the game before doucoure's involvement. But kane was and is england captain. And we're lowly Everton.

Only blame I have for doucoure here is that he didn't draw blood. Lots of it.

I don't think he's as terrible as some do but his wage is completely indefensible for his qualities. Time for all parties to move on. In a lot of ways it's a shame this has turned sour.
Thats been a long problem of this club in the Moshiri era, paying CL wages but the players are actually bottom half PL players at best.

The reason why weve had so many cling-ons in recent times.

Well yeah I agree. If he’d brutally assaulted him like that then he may have been jailed rather than simply sent off and we would’ve been spared from having to watch him try and hardwire his brain to his feet in real time for the next two years.

Well it's always nice when cheats don't prosper. So if I'd been on the jury he'd have been fine. He didn't touch kane's face but the referee couldn't lap it up fast enough. Another hideous bellend PL ref. Yeah, another one.
I've said very similar to this myself, see if I can find it.

I agree to a point, had he seen much of the Niasse situation or maybe heard about it from the koeman days? It's easy for fatso-frank to give it the big un, he had Drogba in front of him and Makalele behind him, what a chore that must've been.

Doucoure doesn't offer himself whatever contract, I know his brain and his legs are wired on different circuits.

A single player can't lift this lot, we've a geriatric at RB, we've a former wannabe gymnast at LB, we're starting a recently cruciate ligament damaged player now who's surprise gotten injured.

Doucoure was brought in to top off with effort the quality around him, not to provide said quality. The quality has been moved on around him and now he is naked of any thing productive. It's been done to him. He didn't jump out to Real, or force James out, or fall out with Digne, or turn gordons head... and and and....

He is a symptom of a greater evil, run as streak through the entire club. Back in a very infamous ladies* day it was called managed decline.

Managed decline is where we are.

I personally think it was a bit of a stupid thing to do in a relegation battle to be honest.

I think he was just being diplomatic. Less diplomatically, he also said he’s no spring chicken which suggested to me that he’s on his way.

The no spring chicken comment is actually the bit that has been concerned.

If he’s not getting a new contract then there’s no reason to kick a man when he’s down. Makes me think he’ll be getting an offer

If you don't fight back your a punch bag. It's why I'd like Moyes mouthing off about knackered refs a lot more please.

We've had recent experience of this, a certain jones of the rs illness attacked doucoure with his back turned, and a couple of ours were in to support him instantly. slot lost the plot and 3 red cars is what they got.

I’d prefer our players didn’t get themselves sent off in relegation battles, as stated. I don’t care about them projecting a personal hard man image, that won’t get us any points.

If Moyes - or anybody else currently within the club - offers AD a new contract… to me that would suggest a couple of things.
A clear lack of forward thinking and that replacement midfielder recruiting doesn’t look very promising.

With the best will in the world, he’s well, well past his best at this level and we simply have to improve in midfield !!
I mean, you can only judge at the end of a window. Maybe there are other priorities?

I say there's always the need for kicking back, noticeable in the above situation it was 17 year old Rooney that confronted huytons toughest.

relegation or not, points or not, having your teammates back is far more important. lesson for life.

I don’t understand how the two situations are remotely similar or why you’ve brought that up.

This bit, I just don’t understand or agree with whatsoever. Of course not being relegated is more important than starting a fight with someone to try and look hard for a minute before you’re sent off.
