Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

He used to go to all the away games with Roger Moore in his Ford Transit, but all the driving got too much for Roger, so Tim Dalton got him involved in the away supporter group. Great bunch of lads.
They'd put a couple of cases of Tenants away by midday some saturdays. And share the driving, that time they drove from Falmouth to Carlisle on the wrong side of the road is the stuff of legend.

MUHAMMED CHAM LEAVES EVERTON

Muhammed Cham.webp

Muhammed Cham took the plunge and moved to Saudi Arabia in the twilight of his career. He signed for Everton for £4.3M back in January 2024 making 39 league appearances and scoring 6 goals. A useful squad player who could fit into midfield or on the right wing, he always worked hard when called upon but the midfielder wanted more than just a role of a squad player and Ferguson decided to let him go to play more football. Everton Football Club released a statement wishing Muhammed well at his new club and in the future.

A big game for both sides as we moved into the second half of the season. Brighton were firmly in a relegation battle sitting 8 points adrift of safety so a win was vital for The Seagulls. Everton had to improve if they are to realise their European dreams but a good win against the Champions Arsenal will give them renewed confidence. Karim Konate led the attack for Everton with Moleiro and Roony in support. Samardzic and Garner made up the midfield and a back three of Branthwaite, Zubelida and Matsima which seemed to be working well. Samardzic cut out the pass in midfield and ran forward, he went down the left and crossed nicely to the far post, Onana was there and he headed down into the ground to beat the keeper and make it 1-0 on 8 minutes! Everton kept coming forward and Konate came deep to get the ball, he gave it to Roony who was on his toes and he shot just wide on 19 minutes, unlucky. Branthwaite had some recovering to do just before half-time as his pass was short to Patterson and Joao Pedro cut it out and got forward, Branthwaite threw himself in front of the shot for it to go behind for a corner. Everton were well in control of the match but the scoreline was tight. Garner came on for an impressive Samardzic on 68 minutes, he had a good game after his return from the sidelines. Everton made a two further changes and it was both wide players going off, Moleiro replaced by Gonzalez and Roony replaced by Cunha. Cunha had only been on a few minutes and Patterson had done well to keep the ball on the right, he found Cunha in the box and he smashed it in from close range to make it 2-0! The game went into seven minutes of additional time and on 93 minutes Lenglet went in hard on Gonzalez as James Garner’s corner came in, penalty given! Gonzalez from the spot and he sent Verbruggen the wrong way, 3-0! It’s a great performance from Everton down on the South Coast and they were on top all evening. Everton starting to regain some form!

Everton vs Sunderland

Lineup vs Sunderland.webp

=Sunderland result.webp

Alex Valle was recovering from flu so Lucas Digne got only his second Premier League start this season. Samardzic’s name was on the teamsheet after a fantastic display against Brighton and Konate was the named Striker to lead the attack. It’s nice to see a back three working for Everton and a chance to see Igor Zubeldia really getting game time. He’s remained professional throughout his Everton career and really impressed when on loan at Juventus. Samardzic ran down the left on 15 minutes, showing some glimpses of skill, passing it to Moleiro inside the box, he saw the run of Onana to the edge of the area and he played him in for the shot which clipped the top of the net and went over, good effort. Nathan Patterson pulled up on 35 minutes with a hamstring injury, he went off and was replaced by Pablo Maffeo. Sunderland came forward on the stroke of half-time, a great wide ball out to the right for Semedo who put in a delightful cross to the far post and Roca got up with a tremendous bicycle kick to put it into the bottom left corner, what a goal. That silenced Bramley Moore. It has been a more difficult season for Everton as they’ve failed to put teams away early on. The league table doesn’t lie and they risk moving too far away from the European places. James Garner came on for Amadou Onana with around 35 minutes to go, he was struggling with his knee and couldn’t continue. Everton had a chance from the corner on 69 minutes, Garner played it in but it was headed down by Moleiro but only to Roony on the edge of the box, he had a look up for options and curled it towards the top left corner beating the keeper, what a nice strike! Everton level! He saw the gap and went for it! Sunderland tried to hit back on 74 minutes, Ba went for a curling effort that Pickford saw and tipped behind, great stop. With 15 minutes to go, Everton made a huge change and it was Beto and Mead coming on replacing Moleiro and Roony as they look to go all out for the winner. Garner put in a great tackle on Neil and Maffeo picked up the loose ball on the right, he played it through for Konate, Patterson came rushing out of his goal and he toe poked it quickly to get it past him and over the line, Everton 2-1 on 77 minutes! Konate won the header from the Sunderland goal kick and passed it to Mead, he played it wide to Digne on the left, he crossed to the far post and Garner was denied by Patterson what a save. Everton had to get through stoppage and Sunderland were not going to take a defeat. Digne won the throw in inside the Sunderland half on 91 minutes and played it to Garner, he got it back to Digne who whipped it in, Garner flicked it on to Beto who also flicked it on behind and Konate knocked it in from close range! 3-1 to Everton! Sunderland had a late corner which was cleared by Branthwaite, it was picked up on the edge of the box by Mead and he ran forward, urged on by the crowd, Garner overlapped and he played it to him, he took the shot from inside the box and struck the post, it came back for Mead and he knocked it into the top left corner! Mead with his first league goal! Calm and collected, Mead gets his first of many! It has been a fantastic last 20 minutes for Everton scoring four goals to come from 1-0 behind!

Duncan, an amazing end to a game that you looked like you were running out of steam.

DF: I was waiting to bring Beto and young Danny on and when Roony got the equaliser we needed something to take it to another level. If you have a front three like that, you’re gonna get something! They brought Konate into the game and he got the next two. Then young Danny finished it off, he’s been desperate to get out there and has been saying he’ll score all week if he comes on. He worked hard for it and he made the goal from the Sunderland corner kick.

That’s three league wins, is Europe back on?

DF: It was never off! It is difficult, the teams in the mix are rock solid and good at what they do and for us to come in and interrupt that would take some doing. We can only keep doing what we can do and win as many games as we can. Still a lot of football to be played and we might just sneak in there!

DANNY MEAD CAN BE THIS COUNTRY’S NEXT BIG THING

Danny Murphy and Leon Osman discussed Everton’s triumph over Sunderland on Match of The Day 2 and both pundits took note of the 16 year olds performance, highlighting key touches and a mature display that he put in against Sunderland. “There was moments in the game when he knew to slow it down and take the sting out of it, he showed something that all great players show and that’s the ability to make it look easy. Danny Mead is going to be player that we will look up in this next generation. He’s come through the youth ranks at Everton, from a working class background and the last player to have a similar impact was none other than Wayne Rooney. It won’t be long before Thomas Frank takes a look at him for England” stated Leon Osman. Danny Murpht was in complete agreement and said that he could be the replacement for 33 year old Harry Kane. “England don’t have that young up and coming Striker that we need, that we get excited about” said Danny Murphy. “Mead has come along at the right time and Kane isn’t getting any younger.”

Everton made a few changes for the visit of Leicester City in the F.A Cup. Godfrey started in defence with Zubeldia and Matsima with Digne and Maffeo as Wing Backs. James Garner made up the midfield. Gonzalez and Cunha supported Danny Mead in attack. Everton moved the ball well nicely but were yet to test Leno, a couple of chances went over the bar in the opening 20 minutes. Bennette was a handful for Leicester down the left and Maffeo struggled to keep up with him, it allowed him to get into good positions and Pickford done brilliantly coming off his line to save his shot on 27 minutes. Leciester were pressing Everton in midifeld and just as he came on for the second half Justin Kluivert had too much pace for Godfrey and slotted across Pickford to give The Foxes the lead. Gonzalez played the long ball forward and Meads took it down nicely, he got to the byline and looked up to see Garner moving into the box, he played the cut back and Garner’s fortunate deflection managed to send Leno the wrong way and pull Everton level! Everton made two changes with just under 30 minutes to go, Onana replaced Redondo and Beto came on for Cunha. Leicester were pushing hard for the winner, Wissa was on and causing problems for Everton but Pickford was solid as usual. Konate came on for Gonzalez and Branthwaite came on for Godfrey who looked a bit shaky. Digne took it on the left and sprayed it right to Maffeo who unleashed Mead down the right, Mead crossed hard and low across the pitch into the box ande Konate smashed it in to put Everton in front! Mead with his second assist and Konate nets again! Everton found theitr groove and Digne put in a great cross for Mead at the far post and he headed against the post on 73 minutes. The youngster has ran his socks off today. On 86 minutes the board went up and it was number 27 Danny Mead, tired but worked harder than anyone, trudged off to a standing ovation as the crowd sung his name. Carlos Alcaraz came on for him for the last 5 minutes. With not long to go, Onana lost possession to Thomas and he passed forward to Wissa, his pass out wide was poor and Maffeo picked it up, surely that’s the end? Everton worked it back to Pickford who launched it forward and it went to Leno in the Leicester goal, he pushed his team forward and played it long for Wissa but the whistle was blown and Everton once again come from behind to win and advance in the cup! Danny Mead was sensational today and deserved the man of the match award. An excellent display and he covered a lot of ground on the right side.

Everton have been in great form recently and have won their last five in all competitions. They’ve scored 22 goals and conceded 3 in their last five and shows how their attacking football is finally starting to blossom as well as being rock solid at the back.

JOHN HEPBURN MOVES ON LOAN TO CARDIFF CITY

19 year old promising Midfielder John Hepburn has moved to Cardiff City on loan until the end of the season. Making a good impression for Everton in his breakthrough season scoring two goals in the Leage Cup and getting a handful of league appearances, it seemed a good move for him to take the loan to play more frequently in The Championship. Cardiff will be doing all they can to remain in The Championship as they currently sit just two points above the relegation zone.

Newcastle United vs Everton

Lineup vs Newcastle.webp

=Newcastle result.webp

A Tuesday night trip to St. James’ Park to face managerless Newcastle United who were one place above The Toffees. Sergio Conceicao left his post to take the Lazio job ten days ago but Newcastle were in advanced talks with Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano who had won the Europa Conference League twice in 2024 and 2026. Everton came into this on a very good run and were seeing the results the fans had been hoping would eventually come. Everton’s first chance came on 5 minutes when Samardzic played it to Digne on the left, he crossed low into the box but Botman cleared, only as far as Konate and Botman threw himself of the shot to deflect it behind. Roony came forward on 10 minutes, he passed inside to Onana and he tried a hopeful ball into the box for Moleiro but it was headed back to the keeper by Stanisic, or was it? Konate intercepted and slotted to give Everton the lead! There was a coming together between Roony and Guimaraes on 25 minutes and Guimaraes didn’t get up, the stretcher came on and took him off, it was a 50/50 and both players went in for it. Roony seemed to be ok but was limping around. Play continued and Newcastle were on the attack with Pulisic who found Lewis Miley, he managed to shake off Branthwaite and hit a rolling shot that deceived Pickford and levelled the score. Roony went off before the kick-off and Cunha came on. Newcastle got into the game and on 34 minutes Miley got his second goal when he got lucky with a deflection off Matsima and made it 2-1. Lewis Miley was running the show and came close to a third just before half-time but his header was denied by the post. Everton saved by the whistle. Everton won a free-kick just inside the Newcastle half, Samardzic’s ball in was cleared but he tried again, a pass to Cunha who drifted into the box and blasted with his left foot into the bottom right corner! 2-2! Everton were doing well winning the ball in the Newcastle half and Onana tried the cross from the right side, Botman got caught and it went in when he tried to slice it cleare, 3-2 to Everton on 50 minutes! What a game this is! Ferguson made two changes and it was both Wing Backs being replaced. Digne and Maffeo looked like they had given their all and were replaced by Valle and Patterson with 35 minutes to go. Newcastle still had time to get back in it and they did just that when Everton were caught ball watching for the corner and Miley played it to Pulisic who smashed a low driven shot through the bodies in the box and equalised on 60 minutes. All to play for here. Everton made their final two changes with 15 to go, Godfrey came on for Matsima at the back and Danny Mead went on for Karim Konate. Newcastle were being urged forward by their supporters and Karlsson took it in midfield and played a through ball into the box for Pulisic, Valle missed the interception and Pulisic slotted from a tight angle beating Pickford and that surely must be the winner? Less than 10 minutes to go and it’s Newcastle in front! Time was running out and Newcastle were all behind the ball defending every long ball forward. Mead was marked out of the game and couldn’t get into it. Frustration got the better of Everton and Newcastle won an absolute epic match bringing Everton’s run to an end. It was that last goal from Pulisic that sealed it, Valle was late and he done well to beat Pickford at his near post.

DF: We went 1-0 up, to 2-1 down to 3-2 up, to 4-3 down. That match had it all and we were on the losing end. It was a tough night in the end but we showed some great character to not give in. The crowd were making it tough but to get in front was really good, we just couldn’t extend it or keep the lead. Thoughts go out to Bruno Guimaraes and we hope he recovers soon. Roony is ok, we brought him off as precaution and he should be fine for Crystal Palace.

Lineup vs Crystal Palace.webp

=Crystal Palace result.webp

With just two days left in the winter transfer window, it seemed unlikely Everton were going to do any business. No rumours or links made it a quiet period for The Toffees as they look to pick themselves up after defeat up in Newcastle. Crystal Palace were having a fine season and were battling it out for Europe, just three points of 4th place. Mitrovic led the attack for Palace whilst Everton went with a front three of Gonzalez, Konate and Beto. Garner came into midfield next to Onana. The rain came down at Bramley Moore and Valle won Everton a corner after 15 seconds when his cross into the box was headed behind by Guehi. Mitrovic came deep to get the ball and he found a way out passing it to Gibbs-White, he played it forward to Riquelme who had the beating of Matsima, got towards goal and smashed it past Pickford to give Palace an early lead. A mistake by Doucoure on 6 minutes allowed Konate to nip in and take the ball but his finish was poor as he knocked the ball wide, a big chance for Everton. Everton probed patiently and it was Branthwaite who got onto the loose ball, he came to the left and played a long ball searching out Gonzalez, he cut it back to Valle who moved inside and found space for the shot and it trickled through the defence and past Henderson, 1-1 on 17 minutes! His first goal for Everton! Doucoure played a forward pass to Riquelme who had the pace to move inside the box and slot past Pickford to get his second, great finish by the Spaniard. Palace caught Everton slipping and Sara played a ball forward for Gibbs-White to chip over an oncoming Pickford making it 3-1 a few minutes later. Onana was struggling and looked like he was carrying a knock, he won the ball back in midfield for Everton, it was moved to the left for Beto and he lobbed it forward, Gonzalez was offside but Konate kept going and he got to the ball knocking it past Henderson to pull a goal back! Samardzic came on for Onana and Everton were pushing for the equaliser. Everton got a corner on 31 minutes and Samardzic was applauded as he went over to take it, he whipped in a beautiful ball with his right foot that found the head of Beto who knocked it in at the far post! Everton 3-3 Crystal Palace! What a first half of football! Mitchell couldn’t handle Beto! Both sides playing at high tempo here and it was one for the neutrals! Everton looked to break from the Palace corner on 36 minutes, Beto with the ball on the halfway line played it forward to Koante ahead of him, he shrugged off Andersen and only had the keeper to beat, Konate got it all wrong and sent the ball wide, he only had to place it but he went for the spectacular. Konate came out for the second half but pulled up just after the kick off and had to go off, Danny Mead got stripped and came on for the second half. Palace were on top in the opening stages and Mitrovic struck the post from the corner, it came to Riquelme who smashed it into the ground bouncing into the net to make it 4-3 and get his hat trick. Gibbs-White played the corner into the box on 73 minutes and as it came down it was adjudged to have hit Ben Godfrey’s hand, there was the standard VAR check and a coming together between both sides as tensions rose. The decision came back and John Brooks pointed to the spot! The boos rang around the ground as Edouard stepped up and Pickford tried to put him off, he sent him the wrong way tucking the ball into the bottom right, 5-3. Maitland-Niles came forward and found Pizarro in space on the edge of the box, his shot deflected off Godfrey and he made it 6-3 on 76 minutes. Palace were unstoppable and a minute later Edouard played in Olise and he made it 7-3 from close range. A ten goal thriller at Bramley Moore and Palace have been devastating! The Palace fans were enjoying this and their side were moving into the Champions League places. Palace are a side that will take some beating this season, if they continue to play like that.

DF: That was unacceptable and I won’t let the players play that way again. We can’t concede seven goals at home, or away! It was a terrible performance and we defended like school children! I can’t allow a performance like that and the only way to learn from it is to bounce back with a true performance and take it out on our next opponent.
