2024/25 Beto

I'm a little scared of a potential deal with Leeds as I fear somehow we'll try and get Harrison back as part of the deal and they'll value him basically the same as we value Beto, either that or they'll convince us to take him off their hands. He shouldn't be anywhere near Everton next season. Still, sell Beto to highest bidder.

If we have to keep one of Beto or DCL due to PSR whatnots, then clearly keep the guy who's actually been scoring.

Also, why give DCL a new contract on £100k++ pw and then sign a new starter to play ahead of him? Surely makes more sense to keep Big B for the backup role. Doubt DCL would be happy to play second fiddle in any case (when he's fit like =).

Giving him a 3y contract for £120k per week is financially no different to signing a ‘back up’ striker for £9m on £64k per week.
Both cost around £18m over 3 years.
We committed more financially to Maupey and he certainly wasn’t our first choice striker.
Obviously no one really knows how much he would be after but the principle is the same up to a certain wage.

Sell Beto to Italy if we do sell him. We don't want him helping keep Leeds up
Why PL is better with Leeds in it . I might be biased but I think with what's happened to both Man U and Tottenham this season and Forest doing well a more competitive environment is better. We haven't had an out and out goal scorer since we sold Wood to Burnley.

Maybe so, but the second point was would DCL be so interested in sticking around to largely bench-warm if we signed the likes of Delap as a new main man?

Aside from that, Beto has vastly outscored him this season.

Interesting. I would keep him and coach him. He's not wanting for physicality and attitude and he is starting to bag goals.

Has connected with team and cares when he's on the pitch.

Keep n coach, Moyes. Maybe get Big Dunc in to work with him.

We’d be daft not to take the money on this one really if a bid came in. He’s never going to push on to be an out and out first choice striker for a team pushing to move up the table. If we are signing a striker, recouping some of if not all of the outlay seems a no-brainer if we keep DCL.

If he sits on the bench next season, what happens to his value? If someone comes in he should be the one that leaves, netting us a fee.

Agreed, but his injury record suggests he would be 2nd choice by default / availability.
Besides, if he wasn’t injured, all it would mean is the should be good competition for a starting slot which is no bad thing.
I expect the teams he thinks he could go to and the ones rumoured to be interested in him, he wouldn't be a guaranteed starter anyway.
And if he was good enough for a starting berth at NUFC / AFC / Man U etc then we certainly shouldn’t be turning our noses up at offering him a contract on a bosman.

He'd only sit on the bench if we don't sign a decent wide player or half creative midfield player. He might end up with double figures and that in a team that basically hoofs the ball aimlessly in his general direction. If he'd played this season in a team that created a decent amount of through balls and crosses from the dead ball line he could easily have scored15+
