750 mill spent last few years and a fruitful Academy (Saka, Martinelli, Lewis Skelly, Nwaneri) you'd hope they'd be better.
OK, I have a mild axe to grind here, but I think history supports my arguments.
Stan Kroenke (Arsenal's lovely owner) is a real estate developer who thinks he who dies with the most toys, wins. He married a Walton heiress. Judging from the one I know, it wasn't for charm or good looks.
He bled the Denver Nuggets to prop up the Avs, and build the arena for both. He bled both, and dismantled the Avs, to build the Emirates. He bled Arsenal to build SoFi for the LA Rams.
He has very little sporting ambition. He's a landlord. He does what is necessary to keep up the properties, and no more. If a tenant succeeds, great! If not, hey, he's still cashing the checks while the property appreciates.
I would argue, seeing how his LA real estate is worth far more than the Emirates will ever be, Arsenal's best hope of a title is ownership passing elsewhere to fund another venture. I wouldn't bet on his kids. Barring that, the best hope of their fanbase is probably sacrificing chicken, cigars and rum to Jobu. Works for hitting curveballs, right?
