News of Ex Players

While watching the Everton v Ipswich, the camera went on to Peter Reid in the stand, both the commenter and Leon Osman gushed over what an Everton legend he was. The thing was, neither of them mentioned or perhaps didn't even know, that the man Reidy was sitting next to and was deep in conversation with, was another Everton legend... Derek Temple.

….he looked fantastic as well.

In the mid-70s Dave Hickson asked me to play in a Charity Match, I was about 18yo and he said they needed some youngsters to help the oldies out. One of those oldies turned out to be Derek Temple, superb striker of a football it was an absolute honour to be in the same team.

Saw him in St.Lukes before the game. A real gentleman as well as a legend.

He is indeed a gentleman. I grew up in Dovecot and, as strange as it will seem to younger blues, Derek, who was an England international, was a neighbour of ours, imagine a premier league player living in a corpy house. He was ultra patient with us kids and always stopped for a quick chat or an autograph. Smashing player, decent human being.
