New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

Exactly. I was wondering why we were in the discussion at all as the stadium was built purely with private investment. It's not like the local council decided to splurge 800m of public money to revitalise the city.

In that sense, while I agree with his charges of homogenisation, in general, we were only in the article because our new stadium is the latest high-profile build. Clearly, he needed an editor.

He needed a story rather than an editor.

It was a concocted 'story' and there was no urgency in covering the issue.

The model of public investment he was attacking - as has been said by you and others - just isn't applicable to Everton's new stadium.

And the only germane point on public investment he makes in relation to this project is about the club lobbying the government over transport infrastructure investment (if it in fact actually happened). But that would be of equal benefit to tens of thousands of people unconnected with Everton's stadium requirements.

No, this was just a confused rant by someone who thought they were being 'topical' and 'clever', but they've ended up making a holy show of themselves. It happens. 🤷‍♂️

Rough areas aren't what they used to be, haha. I sometimes used to walk into to town from my old school, past the Radcliffe estate and then through the Piggeries. I doubt that there is anything remotely close in terms of roughness near County Rd or Spurs' ground. Just working class areas that look a bit tatty in parts tbh.

Location can certainly add to the whole matchday experience, and BMD will hopefully one day aspire to great things in that respect.... but the key element will always be the quality of the stadium itself. Similarly, I've never been overly drawn to stadium externals. In reality, they add little or nothing to the matchday experience, and tbh many of the greatest stadia in the world are plain to the point of austerity on the outside for that reason.

Internally, the side stands at NWHL are far superior to those at BMD. Corporate contained in their own dedicated tiers overlapping with 80 super suites also in their own tier. All over more levels. Our South Stand is much smaller than theirs, but I prefer the way ours turns the corners. If our South Stand is ever extended by 10 rows, as Binman showed previously, then that could really sway it. Of course for flexibility NWHL easily trumps BMD due to the moving pitch.
Do you think they could realistically extend the South Stand by 10 rows, Tom?

Binman did a mock-up using the cross-section for the stand a while ago. Showing it extended by 10 rows (If I remember rightly). I haven't got CAD on my PC anymore, nor access to the actual drawings, so I can't check it accurately tbh. I also haven't looked at the C-values or vertical sightlines beyond 60 rows (including for standing). However, it looked doable and I think it would be quite transformative by bringing more fans closer to the roof. That said, I think it would probably also need another (higher) concourse or mezzanine to improve access to those rows...... so there is the issue of cost effectiveness.

Heard the new owners want the land all the way down to Jesse Hartley Way. This will include a hotel on the dock next to the stadium, with the intention of a Singapore style garden covering the rest of the land leading up to the hotel/ stadium. Very keen for a docking point for boats to go in somewhere near the stadium as well.

Central Park is starting this summer

Speaking of every stadium looking the same, can we really not install unique goal posts and nets like clubs used to have in the 80s? These PL-approved carbon copy goal sets are appallingly generic. Even a different net-elevation system would add a touch of character.
Could get a set of the square wooden goalposts we had when I was at school (way back when the world was black and white) - that would be different!

Can't see this being true. Peel are on with the new park at Central Docks and have received a £53m grant from Homes England to deliver this and the associated infrastructure to support 2,350 new homes.

There will be plenty of plots within that area up for grabs but fully expect TFG to be looking at Nelson Dock and maybe Collingwood Dock to develop something around the stadium. Plenty of land available there.

Does that extend near BM?
Central Docks is this bit
