2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

Genuinely can someone explain to me what Doucoure brings to the team that is so essential to how we play, because I just don't see it.

He runs around a lot and has scored some crucial goals for us, but other than that? Poor on the ball, and for all his running off it he's really not very clever with his positioning and timing while pressing high.

Personally don't think that we would start shipping goals and losing control of games if he was replaced by Alcaraz.
He presses, covers ground, and keeps the defensive shape. Whether we think that’s a good reason to play him or not isn’t really the point, it’s obvious that the manager values those things.

When Dacoure has played more than 35 minutes in games we have won 1.34 points.
When he plays less than 35 minutes or not at all we have won 0.80 points.
He's a Managers player. For what we have needed this season I like him, I think we could do better but Alcaraz is bang average, he's definitely not the answer.

In the 1 game Alcaraz started we got 3 points and he got a goal and assist. Bang average is harsh imo, not saying he's a superstar but I like him. I wasn't able to watch the game yday though so maybe you've seen something I haven't.

Just terrified of Doucoure getting an extension tbh, he's served the club well but we really need to be aiming higher. If we do give him a new contract it would sour me on Moyes.

If you mean this season then he could be playing Alcaraz, ndiaye, McNeil, iroegbunam, chermiti etc instead, but he continually picks doucoure. It seems pretty clear that he likes what doucoure gives him in that role and I would be surprised if we don’t offer him any sort of deal (perfectly happy, but surprised). It seems like he’s just not sold on Alcaraz, I’ve quite liked what I’ve seen myself but it’s not my opinion that matters and if Moyes doesn’t think he’s worth signing then I’d rather we don’t bring him in just for the sake of it and instead identify someone he does want and will use.
🤣🤣🤣 the whole point is him not fancying Alcaraz and you’ve mentioned him as a possibility. You want to clutch at a few more straws. Chermiti is a striker, Villa Tim isn’t good enough to play Centre mid at this point, so I’m not sure how he’s going to be a number 10. McNeil has just come back from a long injury, so hasn’t been an option for months and Ndiaye has just come back from 3 months out.

So like I said he’s hardly had any options to play someone different at the 10 role, bar Alacarz who he doesn’t fancy

I’ve genuinely got no idea what you’re saying here? I’m obviously not claiming Moyes thinks doucoure is the greatest number 10 in the world, just that he obviously thinks he can do a job there and I’m not sure he’ll be happy to lose him on a free. If he didn’t want to play doucoure he doesn’t have to is my (incredibly easy to understand) point, but if you want to make out like we wouldn’t be able to put 11 on the field without doucoure and so he has no choice then knock yourself out.

The option’s you gave were ridiculous, one striker, one midfielder who’s nowhere good enough at this point to play midfield, who the hell would think Tim could play in the 10 role and two players who’ve missed 3/4 months of football. In moyes’s 13 games, we’ve had Ndiaye, McNeil, DCL,Chermiti, Broja and now lindstrom, all missing for a lot of them games

So my point was, just because he’s playing doucoure, doesn’t mean he wants him to play number 10 next season and give him a new deal, because he’s had limited options. It’s like saying he must love Garner because he plays him Every game

But I never said that did I? So not for the first time I’ve got absolutely no idea what you’re trying to say.

Yeah I’d be surprised if we don’t offer him a new deal. That doesn’t mean I think he loves him or sees him as his first choice number 10? It’s not very hard to understand mate. I’m just saying Moyes obviously thinks he offers something, and I’d be surprised if he’s willing to let what he sees as a useful player go without offering a contract. As I’ve said a number of times, I’m not saying agree, just that the evidence would lead me to believe we’ll probably offer him a new deal of some sort. If I’m wrong then great, but I will wonder why we’ve wasted time playing him when he’s not part of our plans. You can pretend the others aren’t options all you want, but they are.

I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you, I was playing devils advocate. He’s only really had 2 options for the 10 role, for the majority of the games due to injury and if he doesn’t fancy Alcaraz, then playing doucoure doesn’t make it nailed on he gets a new deal.

He’s also played Harrison nearly every game, lindstrom played a lot prior to injury, just started Broja the last few games, brought Keane on yesterday and probably plays him next week and all 4 are very unlikely to be at Everton next season

Still maintain he’s a must signing. He looks really bright going forward on the counter. He’s direct and has pace something we’re lacking.

Let’s be honest it’s obvious Moyes really really likes Doucoure and that’s the only reason he’s not getting in the side.

Doucoure is 32 and Alcaraz is 22. His time will come and I really do hope we make it a permanent deal.

I suspect the scouts will be looking for better options. The only way the club should take a gamble on Alcaraz is if they can not identify better affordable options.
