Bill Kenwright

It’s interesting as the people at TalkSPORT had no idea about any of it. We’d probably be regular Champions League participants now. It’s worth a listen if you can find it.

Will do mate. What an opportunity for the city thrown away by someone’s narcissism.

The ACC group (ran by LCC) got money to invest in the area and built a friggin super market car park right on the waterfront.

Are now having to pay it back as part of the investment was to guarantee jobs.

People in high places who don’t deserve it. Don’t attract any big acts and has horrendous facilities.

If it wasn’t for the BBC thing and labour conferenfe they’d be done. Hope the thing gets knocked down but then again you know who will build on it..

Gregg said that he was friends with Bill due to both of them being independent theatre/entertainment business men. Bill had just bought Everton at this point.

Gregg then sold his entertainment business for millions and was looking for a new project to invest it. At the same time the EU had give Liverpool City council just under a billion quid for redevelopment projects in Liverpool.

Everton had been looking at a new stadium for some time. Gregg and LCC approached Bill with a view of building a new stadium. Gregg wanted to invest in this and was pushing for a 365 day stadium with concerts etc. LCC also wanted this.

The site (Kings Dock) was identified and all parties started putting the plans together. Gregg even said him and Bill visited a team in Germany to see a newly built stadium with a retractable pitch that was being used all year round.

The plans were made with the council funding some, along with Gregg and Bill. Gregg wanted a shareholding in the club for his investment going in…

Bill refused as he wanted full ownership. Gregg then spoke with the CEO of the City council who was waiting for the go ahead of the project. Gregg told him Bill had said no.

The City Council then told Bill that they will fund the WHOLE project for an equity share. Bill again refused this as he wanted full ownership.

The echo arena and other developments where then built instead. Gregg and the top executive at the council couldn’t believe Bill said no.

And the rest is history.

From the Horses mouth, where are all his fan boys now to deny it, never forgave Bill for that, not getting the Kings Dock was our first step to not being a big club, all due to one man's vanity. That ground would have been years ahead of its time, in the hub of the City, but greed and one man's vanity stood in the way.

Gregg pretty much said the same. He said anyone visiting the city regardless of who they supported would have seen our stadium. It would have drawn people to it and to our club.

The only bit I didn’t agree with was when he said he’d get Madonna performing in it waving an Everton scarf.

The annoying thing is one of the main reasons it didn't go through was the Echo fully backed Kenwright, were in as much they made Gregg out to be the villain of the piece.

It was pretty well known what happened with the kings dock and he still gathered support and then the Kirby debacle, still got supported.

If anyone behind the scenes did a full on honest review of what transpired here I don’t think it would be just the late chairman not shown in a good light. You don’t stay in a position like that for years without success if you are not placated.

I remember going to see the plans for it, a decent design for it’s time.

Not only would be 750 million better off now (+ whatever the stadium made extra in the last 20 odd years) but we also missed out on having the success that Man City had.

Talk about sliding doors.

He fooled a lot of fans over the years, though I always thought quite a few fans wanted to be fooled, by the blue Bill nonsense, remember him saying not long after he took over, " I am only the custodian of Everton, until someone better comes along". Yeah what a whopper that was..
