one Jason Kearton, an Australian goalkeeper, who was ostensibly an Everton player from '88 to '96, but was on loan variously for long stretches to Stoke, Notts County, Preston North End and Blackpool, and made only eight appearances for Everton...
Jeez- he’s had less than a full season, playing part time, in a squad with no playmakers to serve him, and a constant cloud of off field trouble, in a new league in a new country and new language, for a manager who has never been a good attacking...
Lots of stick for Gomes for being crap off the ball, which is justified.
So let’s give McNeil credit on that score, he worked very hard, harassing their defenders when they tried to play out from the back. He caused a lot of havoc.
Not a bad midfield today, him and Andre, although the quality of opposition should be factored.
Good enough that we maybe should have tried using them to build an attack rather than playing hoof-ball.
He was good yesterday. Tidy all day long, not a hint of danger near him. No he’s not a great attacker but he does his primary job well which is more than most of the XI can say.
He did something which we rarely see which was to take a pass from a defender, turn, and move into attack. So pleasant to have a body in the middle of the park who does that much. Damning by faint praise I know.
