I'm dead happy about all these signings but I think Gomes on loan gives McCarthy the breathing space he needs to rise from the ashes and be the beautiful Phoenix we need.

You do realise Coleman has had the same issues regarding Keane and O'Neill vs. Martinez and now Koeman? There's an issue there and it has little to do with the players. Keane, unsurprisingly is most likely the problem.

I'm not suggesting he starts every game but he's a solid squad player. We have a few of them the wrong side of 30 but not many that if fit can put in a solid performance when needed. He did a damn sight better than Gana today.

Thought McCarthy did well. I see people on here questioning his commitment to Everton over Ireland but he gets the same stick here in the Irish press for the opposite reason. The lad can't win. We'd miss him if he leaves.

Irish people won't start supporting Everton en masse unless there's a trophy or two I'm afraid. We're a nation of glory hunters. McGeady is also a fan favourite whipping boy at most of the games. Still has time to turn it around though. His goal last week got a good bit of coverage over here.

I reckon there has been a definite improvement in McGeady's game since he's joined Everton. His end product is far better and he looks more direct. I have high hopes for him next season.

I agree. I have seen McCarthy in the flesh several times for Ireland and he definitely has a bit more going forward. I'm not sure if you can judge him from the his performances in a poor Wigan side but since he has become a regular starter for Ireland the midfield they have been transformed and...
