Yeah, the original is a classic for a good reason. I tried reading The Butlerian Jihad when I was in college but was not a fan of the writing quality and gave it up. Are any of the other offshoots worth a try?

Nope, he wrote the last two and I think a lot of the ancillary books. Obviously joking a bit, I found Heretics (the book after God Emperor) turned what was becoming a weird series even weirder and had to put it down after that. The first three are great and the fourth is definitely worth a read...

The Sharpe series is such a guilty pleasure of mine. So entertaining, not horribly written but nothing too great. Honestly think the Warlord trilogy is very good, was planning on a reread but got enamored with the Aubrey-Maturin series this year (just started book 15).
