The grief police vibe on this thread is embarrassing. This is a place and thread for people to communicate their feelings and emotions on a tragic event. Bit weird to question the reasons why people want to do this if I’m honest.

Guy in my football team is in with him somehow and he once sent us a personal motivating message before a winner takes all top of the table clash, so I rate him We got beat 5-3 but hay, worth it for the story

I honestly think social media has destroyed a huge percentage of people's morals. Its the equivalent of somebody losing an arm in an accident and somebody saying "why are you sad? There's people who don't have arms". I don't know why the reaction...

Absolutely horrible and thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. And supporters of all teams he has played for - obviously been a big part of their history and narrative too. No-one should be trying to monopolise grief over this...

I'm one of the biggest critics of celebrity culture you can meet, I don't know why celebrity opinions are treated better than non celebrities. But we are just acknowledging it's sad that a young dad who just got married dying is a tragedy.

The celebrity as Ubermensch is the somewhat natural product of society's moral transition from theological to secular. I agree that the loss of life under circumstances of war and genocide is perhaps more morally concerning than the millionaire...

Exactly this. We could have signed him earlier and he wouldn’t have developed as he should have. However we’re signing him at an age where he can still develop and possibly be sold on for a healthy profit - see Gyokeres People are writing...

It's not a zero sum game: they don't have to accept being 4th choice. They just have to accept not being a regular starter. Whoever they are, they will get game time across the season, be it through injuries, rotation, or in cup competitions...

Same song and dance for EIGHT years now. He will play, he will cost us points and he will make the players around him worse. Can't believe the "don't mind him as 4th choice" crowd on here. We'd be spending money just to weaken the squad.

A few half decent performances when there is nothing on the line and against teams for whom many players are on the beach means nothing... with a contract to play for. Has shown time and time again that, when the pressure is on, he folds -...

Quite a lot apparently, but not as much as for Beto, who, iirc, was considered 'dud' until he got a run and a bit of a chance. He got injured last August and isn't now last I heard. Let him get a decent pre season and a run of games and see how...
