What kind of riding are you thinking of doing? Bikes seem to have become extremely expensive in recent years, so whatever you go for, you might do well in the 2nd hand market.

As a point of reference, Pantani's Alp d'Huez record had a VAM of 1829. Pogacar's ride yesterday was 1854. When he (and others) blitzed Pantani's record on Plateau de Beille last year, I think he had a VAM of 1875.
Since Covid, it's noticeable...
I suppose just try and do a good TT today and see the lay of the land after that. If they're another 90 seconds behind then there's not really much hope.

The saddest thing is, that was probably my fittest ever year, and I was thinking a VAM of over 1,000 for an hour is good going...
That's the cool thing about the sport, isn't it? I went to a Giro stage start in Gardena last year and it's all so accessible. Plus, of course, you can ride all of these amazing climbs and literally follow in the pedal strokes of the greatest...
The GC as a competition is virtually dead now....
But this race is something special.
I was at the start in Auch this morning, and it was such a wonderful, joyous spectacle.
Town centre jam packed at 9am, 4 hours before the start, a wonderful...
