Depends on where you are whether shen or khen. Huge variation in dialects. My brother lives in Basel and don't get me started on Schwytzerdeutsch!! :p

Correct. The umlaut basically replaces an e. So mädchen is pronounced in English medkhen. To those of us oldies, Ülli Höness is ooli hooness Our new kaiser is pronounced ruhl not roll.
