Why would the cards not scan at the turnstiles? They'll just put a passive NFC chip in the card, same as they have for the last however many years.

Physical cards can have NFC too, there’s no reason they can’t be used at unattended turnstiles if they’re using that. If the digital cards are using refreshing QR codes that’s a different matter, but even then I’d be very surprised if they didn’t...
