I don't remember your personal thoughts but there was a period of "Gomes does the passing, Gana does the tackling" while Gana was doing the passing too.
I also think that the tackling of Gana was one of the main reasons Gomes had the time to pick a pass. A real long shot, providing he is not volleyed to pastures new, but this signing could bring an revival in the game for Gomes. Plus all of our midfield players come to that,

As I've said I can't complain about the Gueye move for today but down the road we're going to have issues. The squad desperately needs to get younger and the average age of our permanent transfers this summer is not helping that out. We have to stop kicking the can down the road and deal with it.
There are two problems with our ability to do this. One is that we can't afford many young buys right now. We have to get some losses off the books first.

The other is our ability to attract players. Nobody wants to become the next Grealish grinding in the Championship, which is why we've had to loot and pillage a relegated club. It's hard to get young players to commit their futures to a club that finished 16th and can't spend. They (rightly) fear they could get stuck down there.

So we have to stopgap at least some positions. If we look like we're on solid footing again, and have a transfer kitty, we can start working on getting younger.

It really doesn't have to be massively expensive. But that requires a scouting network and we don't have that.

It's gonna be a bit weird and I hope the club addresses it quickly.

But I think I'm gonna have to separate Gana the man from Gana the footballer when I sit down at Goodison.

I very much don't agree with what he believes but I like him as a footballer.

He's going to have to get the Morrissey treatment. Moz is a weapons grade plum but This Charming Man is a rager. So you have to separate the man from the art. Or in Gana's case the man from the tackles.

I personally don't agree that it is sensible to spend a year on a middle step. I don't think it is necessary and it isn't as risk free as everyone makes out.
Don't disagree, but the middle step can run concurrently with the steadying of the ship process, but on the training ground. The middle step, as it were, does not come with a specified time span, and can be ready to introduce on to the actual playing field once it is up and running.
A logical method, to me anyway, to progress, but, to progress with an actual plan. Wouldn't that be something.

You're massively underestimating the lure of the PL (and the wages that come with it) there. Unfashionable teams sign decent prospects all the time, I don't know why some of our fans always want us to be some sort of special case where things are somehow more difficult for us than for any other club.

These 'short-term' signings have never worked for us. We could be needing to replace Allan (out of contract), Doucoure (out of contract) and Gueye all next summer.
That could be just the breathing space we so desperately need. I also have a bit of faith that Lampard and Thelwell can be progressive in identifying replacements. Proving, and they must, keep the dynamic duo away from all recruiting.

Someone saying it's 10m transfer surely not
That's their reported valuation (it was in Euros btw), so that'd be £8.3m

But hopefully we're paying nowhere near that.

An alternative is that that could be what is left on Gana's deal at PSG. He has one year left, and that valuation would equate to £160,000 a week (€190,000), which would be about right
