What we have seen in pre season and it is absolutely clear is that we will be going with 5 at the back and a 2 man Central Midfield, used it in all friendlies so far...

No Everton manager should be allowed to introduce such defensive formations, that formation started with Rafael 3 or 4 games before he got the bullet and continued by Frank in his majority of games last season, that system only got us 4 PL points, the other 16 came from 4-3-3/4-2-3-1/4-4-2....

Even Sam Allardyce never even went to a back 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Going to be one long season, I think we are for the drop this season, AS IT STANDS, the 3 promoted teams will have their honeymoon period so from that end tell me which 3 teams we finish above next season?
We looked more solid with Mina and Tarkowski in the five, and more attacking with Mykolenko and Patterson at full back. We played 4-3-3 on Wednesday and got torn apart in 30 mins

As it stands, Bournemouth haven’t strengthened enough to sustain themselves, Fulham need to find an extra goal scorer for when the inevitable happens with second tier beast Mitrovic and Forest can go either way as they’ve made a lot of signings including a hugely massive financial gamble

Not a bad run out considering. Weaknesses are still obvious but positives aplenty. Well pleased with Patterson and Mykolenko contributions and the sniffing out and being a ghost runner in the box Dele Ali. Few disappointments especially Gordon but it still is pre-season.
Patterson has a wicked cross on him. Still plenty to work on but an excellent run out.
No bed wetting from me just being realistic rather than hard to please regardless ;)

The way to solve this is to stop playing around your box most of the time.
Which implies winning the battle in the middle third of the park, which in turn implies having midfielders of sufficient quantity and quality to play three of them. Playing five at the back is like committing to rope-a-dope. It'll beat Foreman. It's not going to beat Frazier. We need a squad flexible enough to do both on demand.

Yes we need to fix the middle and really attack and stop signing new defenders
