A good intro, should almost stop you dead in your tracks, the first time you hear it.

Also, I think it should set the tone of the song. It's the reason I posted 'heard it through the grapevine' that slow deep bassy sound is so ominous. The bass/piano like a heart beat and the tambourine is frantic. It's like a man angry trying to control himself.
