Here's the big flaw in your calculations Zat mate, it's one a lot of people do.

We sell Richarlison for 50m then you calculate that as that instantly hits the books it allows us to spend at least that and in fact a lot more as fees in will be spread over the contract so say 3 year contracts we can spend 90m and only 30m hits the books this season and then next 30m etc, correct?

But what you are then forgetting is using that form of calculation every player we have bought over the past three seasons this coming season will have a third of the cost of the deal having to be factors in

So just take last season we sold Digne - none of that goes onto this coming seasons books, but we bought Gray, Mykolenko And Patterson.

A % of their fees now comes off what we can spend this sesson, correct?

Roll that back to the season before and everyone bought under Carlo, we also have to pay a % of there fees which comes of this season, again, correct?

See now the huge flaw in your calculations?

That is covered in the amortisation costs, and why the business loses around 70m a year, despite us only spending 2m last summer.

We can do both. They’re not mutually exclusive.

You can get experience on free, and then spend money on youth.
Didn't say they were - Takowski is a free with experience who Burnely would keep of if they could, fine.

Lingaard is a free that doesn't start for United and they are only keeping to make cash.

Neither is actually free, because frees have huge wages - so less to spend on youth.

Does anyone still think we won't be in a relegation battle looking at these links
Sky bet has us 8th favourite to be relegated.

They seem to think that Wolves are in greater danger than us.

I can see the argument for Southampton if Ward Prowse goes particularly as they only finished a point above us.

Brentford without Eriksen.

Leeds - losing Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha - (although Phillips barely played last year).

And then the 3 promoted teams.

Guess it comes down to who all those clubs, including us, get in.

We were 4 points off it last season and our best player has now left.
There is a bit to go in the window but at this stage we will almost certainly be in the mix.
And players like lingaard if he signs won't make a massive difference I would think anyway.

Genuinely can't muster any interest in what we may or may not be paying him, when we don't know the length of any contract, and he'd be coming on a free. All I care about is can he do a job for us over the next couple of years.
Yes mate. I watch Everton play football and he will play better football for us than the players we currently have.

The question of next season being a relegation battle or not depends on this - did Benitez massively underperform with this squad?
I think yes and he destroyed our confidence and it took Lampard a while to get it back.
I think we have a disjointed squad and need to fill a few key areas but as long as we do, we’ll have a season around midtable, hopefully seeing some youngsters like Gordon kick on.
