that picture means nothing, The story is of course that those fans were gassed and they were covering their faces to keep the gas out.

Look at the people behind the front three, none of them have their faces covered. How about an alternative story, those three are covering their faces as they are about to launch themselves over that fence without tickets.

It was probably apparent that people were at the turnstile with fake tickets and the numbers filling up the stadium were far out weighing the number of tickets in. They needed the thin the numbers getting to the turnstile. How do you police this?
They tried to thin the crowd out prior to the turnstile not a bad in theory but doesn look good

EDIT: Sorry was on my phone and only read the first bit. I don't agree that fake tickets were filling up the stadium because as seen at the scheduled KO time of 9pm France time, it was half empty.

thatd be twice in a week as fifa soccer or whatever it is have told them to stuff the naming rights as the costs massive.
as far as the phoney tickets go if the police have seized whatever they have they have an idea which allocation theyre from right? a ways of tracing a bit of responsibility back to whoevers let them out initially or a means of trying to pressure lfc into a review of ticketing policy.
leading from that if they had set up travel they could have allocated all tickets on the thursday/friday and avoided all of this. why wouldnt they want to make a few quid and more from travel accomodation and the likes? that bunch put in for furlow monies and looked to half inch staff on the sly.
