2021/22 Frank Lampard

The venom we’ve received for yesterdays performance from the general footballing population is bizarre. Makes me think most of the so called neutrals posting in comments sections are reds in disguise tbh. As when Chelsea used the exact same tactics in the Slippy G game it was lauded as a masterclass- and that was a team with a far better manager and players employing those tactics.

In regards to the overall relegation picture though I do understand why people would want us down. Pound for pound we are probably the worst run club in the league (besides from maybe United) so I think many fans view us being relegated as being deserved when you factor in money spent, mismanagement right from the top etc. People do seem to hate Lampard as well. Like, really hate him. There’s a proper agenda in the media that’s he’s been handed everything on a silver platter and it comes with a desire to see him fail. It’s just a lot of schadenfreude going on.

I think you’re being way too nice though to be surprised that we faced “going down” chants yesterday from our city neighbours and to imagine we wouldn’t do the same lol. Judging by the year in your username though it could be a generational thing. Even my good friends who are reds are up front with me and tell me they want us relegated. The oft used phrase is “I don’t want you to do a leeds but a few years down there would be sound”. I suppose it’s better they’re honest than patronisingly sympathetic.

Id happily see us play that most games if we became effective at it.

Clearly we would need to bring in better players to capitalise on counters etc but the style is fine for me.

Lampard so far has been a failure. No getting away from it, he’s had little impact and been a big disappointment. Leeds had a “bounce” under their new manager, even Burnley are now on one after sacking Dyche. We haven’t had that. BUT, that doesn’t change the fact that Benitez was also a disastrous appointment that should never ever have happened.
We need to have our bounce now. Set up a siege mentality after the refereeing yesterday and the shocking behaviour by certain sections of the media. And then just go at every opponent like the dogs of war.

Me too.
We came prepared yesterday. The execution wasn't bad either, with frustration setting in (home crowd & players alike) by the end of the first half .
They were just lucky/just good enough to take their chances and come away with the win.

Some call it cynical, I call it realistic.

If we can keep all of the coaching staff and Lampard I would definitely give them until Christmas minimum. We are starting to show signs of being a more coherent unit, and with the addition of some young players and the removal of some with big egos I think we stand a decent chance of coming back up.

I actually think he has improved us, yes the table doesn't lie, but the damage the kopite had done to the squad and the spirit was huge, the away form hasn't improved granted, however we are far more solid at Goodison,I take heart from the performances too against City and that lot yesterday, both games you would not have thought that was a team in that position in the table,Newcastle,Spurs,Burnley away have been the games really where they have let us and the manager down badly, but overall I think we are better however slightly, more fight and desire/belief is definitely there now.

Was speaking to a Utd fan at Uni this morning and he said he hopes we don't go down, but he hates Frank so much that he hopes we do go down.

He then went on to say that Frank is no manager just like Gary Neville and would be better off as an analyst.

The squad is good enough. No way is are team that bad we’re facing relegation. It’s a massive failure from all involved.
The squad is good enough to be lower mid table on paper yes and agree everyone is to blame to an extent for where we are. But it was plummetting, injury ridden, hollowed out of spirit and fight not functioning and shorn of creativity when he took over. The recruitment going back years has killed us look how imbalanced the squad is, the lack of leaders. It lacks mobility in midfield, full backs who can get up and down a proper DM a lack of playmakers with James/Digne/Sig all gone, no proper back up to Dom (who can be a target man and score goals anyway, Richy is a different type). Yes Lampard should take responsibility for some of his tactical naivety initially and some of his subs but for me the squad and the recruitment and years of mismanagement from above are bigger factors than who the latest manager trying to rearrange the deck chairs is.

I felt OK this morning until I made the mistake of reading the BBC website fans forum on the Everton game. Taking aside the expected hatred and bile from delighted Reds fans, I was surprised to see so much anti Everton opinions expressed there. Apparently many are delighted we are likely to be relegated. For a club which has hung around the PL for decades without threatening anybody, why the contempt and delight. Granted I never saw the derby game and never will but calling us the biggest load of cheats in the PL and the worst football team ever seen must be over the top? Granted that many RS fans have no other connection with Merseyside than LFC, it was not nice to read about the abuse from a section of the RS crowd concerning our perilous situation. Would we do the same in reverse? I can't hear myself chanting going down going down to next door neighbours. Can you? The one consistent theme amongst the gloating was that Frank L is a waste of space as a manager and the wrong appointment. Probably correct, but who else could/should we have got, following the calamity of Benitez?

Get real.

The whole football world expected us to be 3 down within the 1st 20 minutes, some of our fans as well. Half time the perception of everyone changed, even Klopp started to panic hence the changes he made, they played bad because of Frank's tactics, he got them spot on, if the ref is not corrupt we would have been 1-0 up and them possibly a player down, then it would have changed the game and the sky title race

I don't really want to be watching us where we barely touch the ball during a game, less than 20% possession yesterday at times and playing on the counter is like something out of yesteryear. Its very hard at the moment due to how unbalanced the squad is tbh

If we had won, and became effective playing that way to take us further up the league would you still not favour it?

With quality but well suited players using that tactic it can be very effective.

Nope, look i know it works but its niggly, it involves getting a lot of fouls, its the Atletico Madrid/Simeone way of playing and look at them, people loved it for a few years but hate them now.

I understand your point , but it’s still a crap footballing style which I would be loathe to pay to watch every week.
And it’s not Everton.
