Yes, we do. The entire point of football is winning especially when you’re 17th in table

So if we draw to Leicester but finish 17th at the end of the season we get relegated ?

No, we don’t. Lampard has spoken out against exactly this kind of logic, putting false “must win” status on individual games.

Burnley was presented as a “must not lose” because we were playing United in the next game. Look how that turned out.

We’re 17th in table and you’re playing Mystic Meg. Great stuff

We need to win every game because that’s football, so you’re wrong but thanks for playing.

And if Burnley lose and we draw we’ll be five points clear.

We don’t have to win any individual game to survive.
We don't have to win in absolute terms. But doing so either gives us a bigger cushion or maintains the points gap. We want either of those things, ideally the first. Not winning often enough means we are where we are.

Err, I’m not the one saying we “must win” a certain game to stay up, so not sure how you worked that one out.

Perhaps you should listen to the words of the man in your profile picture.

Absolutely, just think it’s better to not see any individual match as being crucial to survival. We could not win another game all season and stay up with a few draws.

Lampard has been saying it for weeks, because if you put too much emphasis on a single fixture and it doesn’t go your way it can be crushing for morale.

We dont have to win but things are an awful lot harder if we lose to Leicester and Burnley pick up points this week.

After Leicester we have our 1 remaining gane which is a genuine write off. We are getting absolutely nothing at Anfield and you don't want to lose back to back in our position

Well it’s pretty simple; football is a game and the point of a game is winning. Especially when you’re in a relegation battle.

I don’t think I can break it down any simpler for you.

Not being able to dig in and get draws has been the hallmark of our season and it's got us into this mess.

If we end up 5 points ahead of Burnley after each playing 31 games how can that be seen as anything other than job done for that round of matches?

In fact, draws all the way to the end of the season will get us safe.

we have the 2nd lowest draws in the league, we off course lose more than win, I would rather be 7 ahead of Burnley By wednesday Night if Pos, than a pos 5, as the extra game Burnley would need points from is off course a game closer to the end

But the question isn't whether we'd rather have 3 than 1. The argument from some is that 1 point is not welcome. It is.

I agree on this, picking certain games is nonsense, look at that Norhich result, it was an absolute killer, same with Burnley, we over thought them, we will do the same in a few weeks at Watford, the six pointer thing though has extra pressure i guess
Every game at home we have a chance of three points, all of equal importance.

Just can’t lose the next game. Think it’s quite bizarre we’ve yet to draw under Lampard.
I like that though, draws are no good, go all out for the win, dont hang for a draw, not that we are, were just either rubbish or good, with no middle ground
