OK Div, we'll kid on you don't know then.

They were both formed from the Irish diaspora to initially mainly help /serve the Irish Catholic communities in Edinburgh/Glasgow. Both supports are to this day made up mainly of catholics with Irish heritage, hence the use of cousins as the two are related/connected in this sense.

Now can you tell me why you insist on being an absolute throbber on a daily basis?
Celtic poached nearly all of Hibs players back in the early years. Hibs quietly acknowledge their irish roots and heritage.

They don't do the crass/attention seeking nonsense, that Celtic do for example. Hibs go about it the right way imo.

First of all, thank you for your belated reply.

Second: so if you call Celtic and Hibs fans cousins does that mean you also call rangers and all other fans of clubs formed by scots "cousins" too? After all, apart from Dundee United, they're all formed by scots?

You see what I'm getting at here, presumably?

Lads, let's leave the debate on history out at this stage.

I am very aware of the history of Scottish and the two main Merseyside clubs. In fact you could add in Man City and the reason they play in sky blue.

Going on about it between fellow Evertonian's is a bit depressing. Let's just get Leeds sorted.

Could you please give us an example of how Celtic ' do the crass/attention seeking nonsense' Then give an example of how Hibs 'go about it the right way'

You are talking out of your backside as per usual about something you have no experience of whatsoever.

They also poached some Everton players from our title winning side . Including the infamous Danny Doyle (former Everton captain) , who at one point managed to sign on for Bolton Wanderers, us, and Celtic and collect wages/signing on fees from all three clubs.

Celtic poached a lot of decent players, much to the fume of just about everyone that wasn't Irish/Catholic.

It's not a derogatory term, just obviously relates to both of their unique initial origins as clubs,so don't know what you're getting all agitated about?

Now regarding "why you insist on being an absolute throbber on a daily basis?" question???

Yes, Hibs know their place. Not like those uppity kaffliks from the East End of Glasgow who are up front with their Irishness.

I'm disappointed in your post, Corky. I didn't have you down as thinking like this. It has shades of Norman Tebbit's cricket test comments.

I don't want to elaborate on this mate. This is a thread for discussing football.

D1ck Campbell on our local (stv north) news.
Listening to him speaking so happily about life is a tonic.
He had cancer 12 years ago, loving life just now,as he said why wouldn't he be happy.
Big game on Sunday, Cup game v Hibs live on the TV .
His language, would make a docker blush.
Last of the old school?
If they keep up their form Dick will have the mighty Arbroath in the SPL next year!

Yep.

I don't have a problem with being called Hibs cousins to be honest dave. As you said both clubs, along with Dundee Hibernian, were formed by people from the Irish communities in Scotland.

I suppose Hearts, Airdrieonians, and Falkirk, could be classed as Rangers cousins with their history of being less than friendly towards Celtic and anything with Irish links?
