Genuinely, why Lampard? What's he won? Where's he ever been anything more than average? Kovac maybe, but his name's not even been in the running – is there not a very good chance he got a phone call and went "lollollollol, no."

I think you misunderstand the point. Lampard is someone at the start of his managerial career and wants to make a go of it; he might end up being crap but that is the risk all clubs run with young managers. Appointing him would be a gamble, but it would be a footballing one made for the right reasons.

Vitor on the other hand has a bad recent record, appears to be the creature of his not-agent and is getting the job solely because of that. Just his appointment would be bad enough, but it would also probably lead to players and staff associated with the not-agent coming as well and none of them would have an incentive to do anything decent for us.
