….from what I’ve heard.

- No suggestion of a temporary manager, perhaps indicating somebody from outside has been lined up or somebody from inside will get the job on a permanent basis.

- Rooney says he’s concentrating on his job at Derby but makes it known he would find it very difficult to turn Everton down if they came calling.

- Potter has stated he‘s happy at Brighton and is not interested in leaving.

Watch this space but I really don’t get the ‘Dunc to the end of the season’ shouts. We are in the mire, we can’t give this job to somebody on a trial basis. If folk want Ferguson, they should feel convinced in him to have the job permanently. Personally, I’d have him nowhere near it.

I may be wrong but it does seem like someone at the club anticipated the sacking (let’s face it, things have been dire for a good while) and they’ve already drawn up a list of preferred candidates. Again, whether Moshiri will pull rank and bring in his own candidate is another matter.

If Ferguson isn’t given the job this time I think he’d be well advised to go and get some managerial experience elsewhere. It just seems odd that he’s essentially hanging around the club to be named caretaker when the incumbent manager gets sacked lol

I get the shouts for Ferguson, I understand people think he deserves a shot on the interim basis and fans weirdly think the players will run through walls for him.

The man has been around the squad for the last few managers and been right there on the touchline next to them for the last 2, and the players phone it in again and again.

The players aren’t going to magically get better by moving him from assistant to manager.

For a few games, sure. But give it him till the end of the season and his managerial and tactical inexperience will see us out the league imho, thus souring his relationship with the club and fans in the process.

Whoever the next manager is, they’ve got to do two things in my opinion:

Firstly, they’ve got to establish a standard and then make sure anyone who doesn’t (or can’t) keep up to it doesn’t start games. No one has a place because of who they are, on the staff or the team.

Secondly, they’ve got to believe in getting results rather than styles of play. Anyone whose ego prevents them from doing what is needed to win, or at least play at our best, should not be considered.

This is why I think it cannot be Martinez.

Absolutely. Keep banging on about it cos it's like people forget because last season was "disappointing" (when in reality with this squad, it was the best it could do), Ancelotti did this. Do what you can to win and if not, try not to lose.

Also think it's about identity. Goodison isn't a "tough place to go to" anymore. Everton aren't a "tough" team anymore. And that's not about yard dogs and kicking players up and down, that more about a team being set up right, run for 90mins...win lose or draw everyone gave it their all.

It's what weve been known for and it's been lost.

It's not about them getting better, it's about them playing cohesively and as a team. Once that's in place, keep clean sheets, we've enough attacking quality to win games.

I think Dunc is perfectly able and in the right position to do that.

Also, the younger lads admire him and would want to play with him. The minute he told Dom "You're my striker" for Chelsea, it transformed him. Fancy he did that to Dobbin? Gave Gordon that little extra percentage he needed on the pitch....

That all sounds nice and rosy. And if we were comfortable in mid table, I’d say what’s the worst that can happen?

But as it stands, we’re 6 points away from the relegation zone, with the absolute worst form in the league and showing no signs of arresting the fall any time soon.

I don’t think that’s the situation I want a fella with no managerial experience outside a couple of games on the interim basis to cut his cloth, personally.

In my case I would happily have Ferguson take the next few games, if he does well great, if we win a few and then it starts to tail off we find a permanent and hope for a 2nd (or 3rd really thus season) new manager bounce.

I wouldn't say to Duncan you have it until the end if the season, we need everyone not getting comfortable.

You've essentially described what Benitez tried to do.

I’m really struggling to understand why Rooney has more than twice the number of votes that Lampard has.

Rooney has done a far worse job at Derby and has zero PL experience. Lampard had a very good win ratio at Derby and an okay time at Chelsea, probably too soon for him to be given the job when he got it. I’m not saying Lampard is the right option either, but surely Rooney is a huge risk.

If Rooney was some random bloke from Germany with that managerial record nobody would even be considering it.

I don't think that makes a difference. You telling me Lampard has a better knowledge of the players/situation to get them out? Or any of the names mentioned?

They don't. It's the same risk IMO at this stage of the season.

What's your thoughts on Martinez coming back?
