Seamus has been a great servant for us and a very good professional. His time is over now, or at least it should be. It’s sad to see him struggling with the pace of the game and making costly mistakes, but, time waits for no man. There were a few seasons when Seamus and Leighton Baines were, in my opinion, as good as any full back partnership in the league. Leighton had the sense to know when the party was over, unfortunately for Seamus, the enthusiasm he has shown throughout his career is blinding him to the fact that, at this level, he is done.
It really is down to the club now to sign somebody who allows us to take Seamus out of the firing line and use him for cameo appearances only until the end of the season when he should be released. All good things come to an end and I’d love Seamus to go while we still remember the good days.
