For it to happen on the pitch look to the manager and how he operates.

You have to try to get players on longer term contracts or they can leave for nothing and Brands would get hammered for that as well.
Even if it just to sell the player it is better to have him under contract and the manager seems to like him.

My biggest issue is that we can't be trusted with the task of replacing him. You just know we'd bid silly money on McNeil (a player I've got nothing against individually for the record) and that wouldn't be enough.
