Everton Summer transfers 2021

Honestly since our money came in from Moshiri our transfer record has turned out to be mostly awful.

If it will scare us into actually doing some good due diligence and constructing a genuine strategy, I wouldn't mind us spending a bit less.
It's far more important how you spend rather than what although more of the latter obviously helps in terms of who is available and being able to secure assets.

We've made some good if not great acquisitions over the years, but we've got more than a sprinkling of absolute wasteful and expensive flops.

I think our wage spend is probably more the greater problem than the actual spending as it then burdens us with dross.

W
Out
James
Delph

IN
Nunes
Dumfries
McNeil

I'll be doing cartwheels if we pull it off - massively strengthened with pace and quality in areas we desperately lacked in last season.
We'd get about 50p for James and Delph. How would that possibly allow us to go and splash the £60 million-ish we would need to sign those three?

Not necessarily mate the Echo have said money is available but only for younger players and not 29 year olds but we have to get the wage bill down also.

James going probably covers 2 incoming players wages alone and you have the likes of Delph/Tosun/Kenny who could all leave before the windows end.

God knows whats happening with Soggy as well.
Tosun is injured until the next window.
No chance he’s leaving.

Maybe looking at Spurs shows you can't have a new stadium and not be frugal though... same with Arsenal.

Oh I'm aware mate, wasn't a knock.

But we're also in a worse place. Spurs and Arsenal were reaping rewards of Champions League (at the time), and I want the new stadium, I just don't want us sliding into obscurity.

If we do some business, even modestly, which will cover where we need reinforcement i'm happy. Hopefully the stadium will be the catalyst, but hopefully we don't regress.

He was crap as well wasn’t he that Bosman fella.
He didn't even make the Belgian national team when they weren't even that good.

With Tosun, it's likely to be October or November before his return, so it'd be useful if we could ship him off in January for a few quid to release the wages.

I heard from a few people that in training he was a good finisher, but the pace of the PL and how we play is sadly very simply way above what he can offer.

He is a good finisher and also a decent all-round footballer, but just physically nowhere near what is needed from a PL striker. Which really should have been obvious to whoever scouted him.

I thought maybe the James stuff was just a bunch of jarg.

but it keeps rumbling on? Could Rafael have made a stance, I can somewhat understand but its a tough one.

Kean would also need to be gone to pull this off, maybe Gomes also

The fact we seem to be in negotiations with 2-3 players suggests its a case of waiting for 1-2 of ours to finalise moves elswhere.

If we were skint we wouldn't be in weeks worth of negotiations for players imo. The McNeil one is interesting as well - not loads of media talk about it but when Bad news Kirkbride says we are interested in a player along with O'Keefe & Joyce there is certainly something in it.
