Everton Summer transfers 2021

People will still swear that we can't copy any of the number of successful recruitment strategies that German clubs use though
That easy isn’t it mate? Take a strategy that has likely been years in the making, used by teams wildly different to ours, and just copy it. You know, like every other team has done apart from us.

WAIT WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY HAVEN’T?

Some games towards the end of last season we was playing holgate rb and Coleman right mid, we had 2 goalkeepers on the bench along with Bernard, delph, iwobi, Gomes, Davies and king. Not one of them if you’re behind in a game offer us anything. Townsend isn’t the best but he’s far better than the backup options we have, likewise gray. Might be the difference of a couple of games we would have drawn turns into a win and pushes us up a spot or two and into Europe. If we use the money we do have to improve the first team then we’ll be stronger in the starting squad and subs. Can’t go out improve the entire squad in one summer. If we did this four seasons ago we wouldn’t be in the terrible position we find ourselves in.

You have to start somewhere.

And frankly the teams in our situation that are doing well have done it.

So Benitez gets the Everton job and immediately bells Andros Townsend to hang on in there while he sorts out getting him to Everton.

Just let that sink in for a second…

I couldn’t agree more mate but it’s never just as easy as saying we can copy what other teams are doing. Leicester won the league playing kick and rush footy, does that mean we should give that a go?

Ancelotti had us believing that what he was doing was the start of a project. We’ll never know how that one turned out. Benitez - hate him or the signings all you want - seems to have a pretty nailed on idea of how he wants us to play; how do we know this (thus far) auspicious summer isn’t the start of the strategy that works for us in the medium-long term?

I suppose what I’m rambling towards is the point that hindsight is a wonderful thing and it’s a bit too easy to say “we should have done it like X”.

Flip it around - Benitez has instantly seen the 3x major problems at the club:

Threadbare squad
Lack of any pace / wide players
Suspect mentality from a number of players

Done more than the last 4 managers instantly.
