Arsenal bid for Jagielka?

Every time you say that, a free signing dies. You Monster

There is no such thing as a free signing.

There is no such thing as a free signing.

There is no such thing as a free signing.

There is no such thing as a free signing.

There is no such thing as a free signing.

I'm trying to put an end to these McFadden rumours.

Loans aren't free either but everyone wouldn't mind Adam Johnson on loan

I wouldn't mind a tugjob from Gwen Stefani, but it doesn't mean it's viable.

The point I'm making is that people seem to think free signings are actually free. Two words: wage bill.

Bosman signings are cheaper than normal signings, you said so yourself ('80%'). Hitzlsperger (or someone of a similar pedigree i.e. experienced international who knows the league) for 80% of his true worth is worth considering. He's a good player.

Yes they are cheaper than normal signings but they still take up a slot on the wage bill we've been trying so feverishly to diminish.

And the last thing we need is another central midfield player. This is just so obvious it shouldn't have to be said.

This is starting to drag out now.

We should just tell Arse to come up with the moolah or look elsewhere.

I agree that we're strong in the center of midfield but not so strong that we should dismiss quality players going cheap in that position. This will be especially true if we don't end up signing a wide player before the deadline, since that would likely mean Arteta and Osman being played on the wings relatively often.

Fellaini
Osman
Arteta
Rodwell

Of the 'true' center mids in the squad Arteta and Fellaini are apparently unsuited to playing as a partnership (which is a maddening shame, since they seem like such a perfect match on paper) and Rodwell goes missing for long periods (which is fine, at his age). An experienced international going cheap shouldn't be dismissed out of hand, especially since he's so dissimilar in his style of play to the center mids we already have.

I didn't mean to necessarily champion Hitzlsperger as a potential signing, although I do think he's worth considering, I just think the Bosman market is one we should be looking to utilise. Your argument seems to be that a discount of only 20% isn't enough to make Bosmans worth considering, which seems odd to me.

I'd rather give Barkley some games in Midfield this year if we have too than sign Hitzelsperger to be honest mate.

What aren't you getting, mate. Just because he's going cheap doesn't mean we can feasibly afford him.

If a slot on the wage bill was taken up by yet another central midfielder I would fume.

I'm not saying bosmans are a bad thing, obviously not, I'm saying buying players you don't need when you can't string two pennies together is a bad thing. A stupid thing.

And as Jenko says I'd rather blood Barkley or someone.

But in the case of Jags...getting a loan or a freebie is far more productive than getting his transfer fee and buying, outright, another defender from another club with it that would include a transfer fee, agent costs etc

This was in regards to Hitzlerspluergerefer, mate. I'm not sure why, like.

And I'm absolutely positive I don't want us to sell Jags now after THT telling me Heitinga will jump ship the minute a decent offer comes in. I'm not comfortable having him replace Jags because I don't see any longevity in it.

I think we're so broke that we can't even sign players on a bosman because of the wages.
