I thought the most famous example of a false 9 - Spain and sometimes Germany - was literally no striker and someone different would get in the box, and be the focal point each time, so CBs wouldn't know who they are marking. It's a 9 running from deep.
This is deep, not playing deep, just deep  Is it still OK to watch Everton without knowing all these technicalities?

The opposite. Starting as a traditional centre forward and then dropping off as the move develops to create space for other forwards.

The original modern example is Messi doing it leaving space for Eto'o.

Hopefully we'll see some movement this week.

Dumfries is still on our radar so I would have hoped this would be wrapped up.

Seeing Allan, Kean and Doucoure back will give Benitez more of an idea of what he needs because we'll be pretty much full strength apart from Pickford, DCL and Richarlison.

Kean is an interesting one if Benitez wants to keep him and play him it's a positive but he will surely have his head turned by PSG but he never made the final Italy squad so maybe that might come into thoughts if we offer him regular first team football.

End of July, beginning of August generally seems to be when we do business.

The sooner the better, but it's not helped by constant upheaval.

Get business done before the first game and leave deadline day for loans and any cherries on top.

I think the time to go for Barbosa would have been on loan when he was at Inter.

With Benitez, we dont really know what formation he wants to put out. Its been said that he favours the 4231 in which case (on paper) we would only 'need' a starting right back and a right sided attacker.

Were not far off being able to put two teams out:

GK: Pickford / Virginia
RB: ??? / Coleman
RCB: Mina / Branthwaite
LCB: Godfrey / Holgate
LB: Digne / Nkounkou
DM: Allan / Davies
DM: Doucoure / Gbamin
AM: James / ???
LF: Richarlison / Gordon
CF: DCL / Kean
RF: ??? / ???

Try to sell these 10:
Keane
Gomes
Sigurdsson
Delph
Iwobi
Tosun
Kenny
Bernard
Baningime
Gibson

I think we could 'get away' with
1×RB
2×RF
1×AM

I must say, im quite romanticised by the idea of having Emerson and Antony as our right side -- two young attacking Brazilians. Perhaps £50mil for both?

A couple of high potential prospects at RF and AM and we'd have the numbers.

Then of course if we could sell others to upgrade at DM and CB it would be ideal.
I think now would be a better time to sign barbosa. He stunk the place out at inter and benfica?? Perfect example of a kid moving to soon. Found his mojo again hes older, wiser and been prolific with Flamenco. Would love Emerson hes the new Dani Alves /Cafu.(id have him well ahead of Aaron's) Antony i havent seen is he similar to what malcom was like. i always thought malcom was going to be a worldie. I think hes still parked up in Russia. Barca would sell Emerson 20/25m bargain, wed be set for the next 10yrs at rb.would love Puig too from them 40/50m the pair.

Every time we are linked with a left footed right winger they get really serious long term injuries.

David Brooks
Malcolm
Chukwueze
David Neres

Still no sign of Brands' South American scouting prowess (or Eredivisie) for that matter.

Anyone know where he left it three years ago? I'm sure he'd be grateful.
