Not a lot in the forum surprises me anymore but the fume over not getting Olise is amazing.

Lads. He could be awful.

Everyone cryarsing that we don’t gamble enough on Champo players. 3 teams a season come up FULL of Champo players and typically don’t do well.

The MAJORITY of players a level or more down are there for a reason. The MAJORITY of lower league signings by PL teams don’t set the world alight.

For every Stones there’s a Holgate (and that’s quite generous - I could have said Gibson). For every Cahill there’s a Bowler, Adeniran, etc.

Just relax.

Not that fussed myself on Olise but for £8 million its a no brainer when we have the likes of Siggurdsson, Slomes, Benard and Iwobi at the club.

Selling a Benard or Slomes on 80-100k+ a week for a few quid and replacing him with Olise on probably about 40k a week is the sort of business Brands should be doing.

It's a buyers market mate and I don't see many clubs queuing up to take Bernard or Gomes off our hands. Until someone leaves, we won't make any big signings.

I imagine James will go and we'll see a replacement, Mina will trot on and we'll replace, same with Kean nd hopefully Bernard too. Just gotta hope someone takes one of the centre mids (Sigurdsson or Delph preferably) so we can bring another in. Our finances are not in a place where we can green light big money moves.

No mate. What if he’s even worse? You’ve then got a player you’ve got to integrate into the squad that you’re going to have to replace anyway.

I bet your Asda trollies are all overflowing with BOGOF stuff you wouldn’t have bought one of if it wasn’t on offer.

Cheap doesn’t always mean bargain. Sometimes it just means cheap.

Yes, a lot of our fans go so over board with other clubs business. Eze looked good at times for palace, but he’s 23. Got 4 goals in his first season, not sure how many assists he got. He’s never played for England.

Yet Richarlison was atrocious according to many Everton fans. Yet he still scored more goals and probably got more assists. He’s been a regular for Brazil for 3 years and is only a year older than Eze.

For the sake of balance, I was gutted we didn't go in for Eze last year before he kicked a ball for Palace. As you say, his numbers weren't great but as a player he looks like he'd have possibly done well for us. Ultimately, though, that's the nature of a gamble, isn't it?

When people on here are saying "take a gamble", what they really mean is "buy some wonderkid for peanuts". If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it.

He did'nt, Richarlison got 3 and Eze had 6, also Richy has more experience of playing in the PL than Eze and tbh i don't think Roy was getting the best out of him. Olise is probably not as quick as Eze but he is better on the ball and can play out wide or in the centre. It's a good signing for them imo.

No not really mate. I’m talking about players signed from the Championship for cheapish fees to go straight into the first team. Lookman cost £11m, Vlasic cost around the same and was signed from a Europa League side. Branthwaite is still an unknown, we don’t know how that’ll turn out. Holgate isn’t very good.
Fair enough.

We have been completely short on a RW option for years. The kid has shown really good promise and had a really cheap release clause. Your best argument against people being annoyed with Brands is "he could be crap"

You lot make excuses for Brands spending £30m on Iwobi instead of asking why he isn't doing what he was brought here for and getting young players with great promise for cheap.

A bit harsh on Holgate, the potential to be excellent but needs to realise that being a top player requires huge dedication and concentration for every second in a game.

I think he may be on of the beneficiaries under this new manager.

When you look at how we applied a scattergun approach to signings over the last few seasons and how that worked out yet some on here want to do exactly the same again.
