I'm not really concerned with his season being poor so much as him being the exact same player he was in the fall of 2018. If he's also going to make pretty open suggestions that he doesn't want to be here then fine, off he goes. Hudson-Odoi would be a fantastic option as a replacement imo. I'd be interested even if Richarlison is staying.
Why him though? Hes on £120k+ and Chelsea seem to want £60mil for him i think?
Didnt Tuchel start playing him at RWB?
I'd take Phillips for £60m without hesitation. He's an excellent player who would slot in to a position of urgent need (DM) as a day one starter. He's Prem proven, ticks the Home Grown box and allows our two best existing MFs to concentrate on box-to-box play. At 25 years old he is just now coming into his prime and to see him in royal blue for the next three to five seasons would be a massive upgrade for us.
Obviously I'd rather pay less, but £60m would not be overpriced. The issue would be that unless we sell Kean for £40m+ it's hard to see how we drum up the cash because we need to spend around £80m on a RW, a LW and a RB too.
If Moshiri wants us to be challenging as he claims then he needs to spend more than £55mil net a season.
Phillips would be a great signing.
Richarlison can't play centre forward. We tried it and it's really not his role. Buying 1 good young centre half and then selling all of your experience is insane. Keep 1 at least.
Richarlison was up top...but who was feeding him?
Also, why is it "insane" to sell experienced players when their experience is failure?
Not looking to argue with you, but doesn't Richarlison play CF for Brazil?
Godfrey and Holgate have enough Prem experience IMHO. And it's not like Ben White currently plays in the New Zealand domestic league... Look, Mina misses too many games with injury and if we do extend his contract despite this, then Keane HAS to go because you can't have Mina AND Keane both earning king's ransoms - we need to get the wage bill under control. How about Keane and £25m (spread over 4 to 5 years) to Brighton in order to secure White - you'd take that, surely?
We definitely cant keep both and Mina is a far better player....it seems clear that we should have sold Keane a season ago when his contract was winding down.
He doesn't play as a traditional 9 and this is the worst Brazil in years. Besides, we've seen that he can't play as a CF in the premiership.
I'd have no objection to selling Mina or Keane and the 25m exchange is something I mentioned a while back. My concern is losing too much experience. Holgate went backwards last season and Godfrey has loads of potential but isn't seasoned as an EPL centre back. Besides, 2 out and 1 in leaves us short IMO.
Holgate may go forwards this season. An injury + no preseason then shifted RB to CB cant help.
We could go with White, Godfrey, Holgate and Branthwaite and even loan someone to make up the numbers if it meant having an excellent first choice pairing.
If anyone thinks we are signing any of the current England team, just check where we finished in the league last season and whether we are in Europe.
Not one player would drop down to play for us no matter how much we paid them.
Please a reality check
Well, were a far bigger club than several of those players currently play for and would pay the required wages.
Plus they expand our existing group of England players
it technically would not be a drop down for the following players - ramsdale, johnstone, mings, coady, white, grealish and phillips
Precisely...id even suggest Konsa at Villa will push into the squad soon.
