Euro2020 Knock Out Rounds

This was agreed years ago, prior to England even qualifying for the tournament. There were 12 countries hosting matches, 6 of those countries would play all their group games at home (based on ranking) and 6 would play 2 of them at home. The round of 16 and QF games were to be shared around Europe, and the only reason Wembley got one was because Dublin pulled out over covid concerns.

I agree having multi national hosting isn't ideal and I much prefer the 1/2 nation format. But the idea that it is some sort of fix to suit England's chances is ludicrous, certainly no more than a normal competition giving the host nation an advantage, and that happens all the time.
I wasn't implying a fix at all I just think semi finals should be neutral regardless of what team or competition it is, If it was arranged years ago then you can't do much.

Pickford has been excellent, with big saves against Scotland and Germany when they needed to be made.

England, as expected, brushed aside that pub team last night. I said it was an effective bye to the semis, and so it proved, with England doing what all good sides do: swiftly brush aside inferior opposition.

As an Irishman, it pains me to say it but England are playing well and doing everything required of them. They have all the advantages in this tournament, but all they can do is maximise those, and they have so far. Denmark will be a very dangerous opponent now. Yes, if England play well they should get through, but the Danes are well capable of winning this - unlike Ukraine. Nevertheless, my feeling is that this is as good a set of circumstances England could ever have hoped for. Home matches at Wembley against a second tier European nation and a potential final against a top tier nation that is not at the top of its curve. It's definitely there to be won.
Wouldn't argue with most of that. Ukraine are a bit better than you make out though. Yes England are the stronger side, but on the whole the second tier nations have acquitted themselves fantastically during this competition and have really stepped up against the "superior" nations. Ukraine are a decent side and they showed that at times in the first half last night. But the 2 quick goals at the start of the second half were a sucker punch and they started to feel the effects of the gruelling game against Sweden earlier in the week.

Denmark are a step up, but i don't believe they are any better than Germany. People talk about England's route to the semi's, but if anything the Danes have had it easier in terms of teams played. If we play like we did against Scotland I think Denmark will win, so we will need to bring our A game. The Danes had a hard fought game against the Czechs yesterday in very hot conditions, plus a gruelling 5000 mile round trip to Baku. We, on the other hand, were able to rest key players during the game and in theory will be a lot fresher for Wednesday's semi final. I wouldn't be surprised if they tire as the game goes on, so as long as we can keep it tight until then we have the best players in the competition to introduce from the bench to exploit that.

If they are going to blow it then what is the point of crying about the venue. Either the venue is going to be a massive plus for England and they get through on the back of it, and it alone, or they are guaranteed to lose which makes the venue argument null and void.
To underline the point that - regardless of who wins the trophy - this England team have been blessed with good fortune and a chronically lop-sided tournament venue organisation

I agree that Denmark isn't that good.

However, they have the team of destiny thing going for them. That means abnormal self-belief, which makes them dangerous.

That makes them scary.
They have some very good players. But their best player is missing and that could be telling. Plus they've had a gruelling trip to Baku.

We need to perform on the night and if we do it should be enough.

Italy is a different matter. I haven't been so impressed by an International team since Spain of 10 year ago. Not sure how much the loss of Spinezzola will affect them though. Much of their attacking play went through him.

The problem is the virus and short notice, cant switch countries now, just not possible.
Besides I dont think its Wembley that has got England this far, they have just been better, I'd fancy them to beat Denmark in Copenhagen

Part of the whole appeal of the tournaments is the place they are held. I dunno how this would help the pandemic as you have people travelling all over.
The pandemic has stopped people travelling. As I said, they have tried something different and why not. Regarding the travelling, friends I know who go to theses tournaments, tend to travel in for each game so playing in different countries wouldnt have made much differnce to them. How did you travel to these games?
