Anyway - all this is proving why I don't want him to be appointed. The groundswell of opinion against Benitez means it's just almost certainly never going to work.

All I'm saying is I think he's a better manager than many people on here seem to think, and I think people's opinion of him is massively clouded by the ill-advised (but accurate) comments he made when managing our biggest rivals.

I have a sinking feeling that our owner is going to appoint him, and loads of our fans are going to create a toxic environment and it will go very badly wrong.

And here's my biggest fear - let's say this IS all about trying to stabilise the club ready for the new stadium. What happens if Moshiri gets so upset by the lack of support for his appointed manager that he just pulls the plug and walks away, leaving us in an even bigger mess?

Imagine having this level of low self-respect.

But will the squad quality improve? We will yet have 2 people pulling in different directions with Benitez and Brands. Another negative for Benitez, he wants full control, he doesn't work with DoFs and always falls out with owners of clubs. He usually gets fans on board when going against boards but that just wont happen here so his biggest weapon has gone.
We can only hope that the Board have done their due diligence on that front and made it clear how things will run.

Those are definitely doubts that I have about Benitez and why he's not my choice

He had World class players to lean back on at most of his other clubs, What has he got here? A target man in DCL and 1 genuinely top quality footballer who gets on the pitch for about 60% of games who he has a run in with in the past. It will be set up very similar t Newcastle. The LIverpool fans I've spoken to wanted him to leave when he did because the football went very stale and safe, which would marry up with the fact he hadn't won a trophy with them in the 6 years after the FA Cup game

That Birmingham game where they were losing and he took off Torres. El King Rato Slippy made a big theatrical play to the cameras and he was sacked shortly afterwards.

Are you part of Benitez' team? He is an awful manager. There are at least 9 teams better than us. That number will increase dramatically under Benitez. But keep dreaming eh!
I have stated repeatedly that I don't want Benitez.

I just also don't buy that he's a terrible manager. It's possible to hold both views.

And I also would back him - and anyone else for that matter - if they were appointed.

Get over it by quietly accepting it and then cheering Benitez' name you mean? Clapping the board when they appear on the screen singing if you know your history because we bravely held Liverpool at Goodison until the 89th minute by not getting out of our half?

In life, if people are intent on a path of self-destruction, you give them as much support as you can because you care for them. At some point though, they take your unwavering support for granted and it doesn't actually help them help themselves. Sometimes you have to withdraw that support. Starting to think that way with this lot tbh.

Those of us who are unhappy with this should withdraw support, whether that be not renewing season tickets, stopping buying merchandise, booing the team, petitioning the club. Whatever method it is, it has to be that way or we will be taken for granted.

Look how even the Super rich clubs papped themselves over the ESL when fans really stood their ground. If that was us, we'd have probably gone down to Goodison, held hands and sung 'if you know your history' before clapping our board because we're 'not Kopites.'

What are you protesting against? The standard of quality of the possible manager? Or what he said about Everton? Or both?

he's never 'phoned it in' in his life, it's clear he lives and breathes footy.
Why are you so "all in" on this appointment. I've had a browse through your posting history and you seem pretty rational on the whole (it's GOT so everyone has their moments!). You must be able to see that at least a portion of the fanbase is going to always be on his case. You've already pointed to a lack of quality in the squad so there are probably going to be bad spells for the team in terms of results and we all know that even under well liked managers the crowd at Goodison can be tempestuous. Benitez is not well liked. It is the steepest of uphill struggles for him at this club. It's not worth it for us, the only upside for him is cash. It's a bad fit.

Please NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Mindblowing that the club went out with:

- not even pre-season yet so full duration for new manager to work with
- huge budget as usual
- squad includes James Rodriguez, Digne, Richarlison and Allan
- modest expectations
- £11m a year to previous role holder

And the absolute best they could come up with was Benitez. We must have Ludwig the Second in charge.
