Champions League revamp

Florentino Perez came out, but what's telling is nobody has come out following him. There seems to be a horrified silence instead.

It’s like what Gary Neville said the other day, they’re cowards, they’ll do exactly what he said, disappear and then if/when it caves in they’ll say it was only ever an idea. I even think that Perez at Madrid has pushed the boat sooner than they’d hoped.

Burnley, Brighton and Palace might actually care about fans and the spirit of the game though. This is a long shot, I know.
Haha, spot on fella.

Tell you what, I look at the dross Spurs and Arsenal in particular have ponied up this season. Two leagues of 10 in the ESL... they could be 9th and 10th after a couple of games. You tell me that's gonna motivate or help players, fans and clubs? OK they'll probably not play league or even FA cup, but a 10 team leageu where you're snookered after losing your first three games doesn't sound like a major attraction to me, especially when you're then despised in whatever domestic form you still attend becuase it turns out to be the only thing you have a whisper of a chance in winning.

Honestly, why would they have known?

Look at Mourinho. Sacked the day it happened pretty much.

Managers are employees. They don't run the club top to bottom. They have little to no impact on the business side of it. Why would they know?

Something as substantial as this and the manager hasn’t been briefed or spoken privately to in the past about a possibility of it happening? I don’t buy it. It affects the team and the manager is in charge of the team.

Look, I could be wrong here , we are on the outside looking in aren’t we and I don’t mean to be a smartarse , there are times I can’t accept everything told to us.

Can't kick them out without standing accused of breaking current TV contract, points deductions is probably the most realistic domestically by the 14.

If they didn't negotiate the right to exercise league rules into the contract without being (directly) penalized, then they're fools.

And as I've stated previously, if you kick the other 6 teams out you can make whatever rules you like regarding investment to weather the revenue storm. You can even make them without kicking them out, if you word them right. But I wouldn't recommend setting the precedent of permitting what are functionally bills of attainder aimed at some of the members to hit the table, if I were advising them. That's a big red line to cross.

They don't see it in terms of players and teams. They see it in terms of assets. They're irrelevant.

All of these discussions are done with strict NDAs, the wider the scope the less secure they are.
