Champions League revamp

DAZN willing to pay £3B for the TV rights.

Not according to this that has been released:

In relation to a report by Corriere dello Sport today, this and related reports are false. Neither DAZN nor Mr Blavatnik are in any way involved or interested in entering into discussions regarding the establishment of a Super League and no conversations have taken place.

This is what always gets me about this super league talk.

Its not for the local/diehard fan base it'll be for the armchair glory supporters. So when the league sorts itself out and the natural balance of teams shows up in the league rankings how long are the glory supporters going to enjoy watching their team getting tonked every week?

Then those same fans will bin off the loosing teams and start following the best teams in that super league. It'll just end up with the best teams cannibalising the worst.

Then the worst teams will just become like the WBA or Sheffield Uniteds of this season but unable to go anywhere or improve just go into a death spiral. Then the games against them teams won't have the glamour of the best of the best and instead will end up like city v WBA. Then people will stop watching those games then the top teams will start saying "why should we share the money equally, we bring more viewers to this league then x". Then the whole cycle of whats been happening to football on the whole will happen again.
Four of these super clubs are currently behind David Moyes’ West Ham.

I think United and City fans will turn on their owners...

RS need one of their 'figureheads' to start the snowball effect.

Id expect it from Chelsea...also from Daniel Levy...

Surprised about City as their PR exercise falls flat on its face while PSGs owners take the honourable actions.

Come again?

They dont though mate.

Overseas fans watch those teams because of the players in the first place and glory/competition.

South Koreans love Son for example. They will support him and probably stick with Spurs after he leaves unless Korea have another star emerge who plays for another top side.

What does Son do if hes told "no internationals"...Kane ?

If Aurier and Ndombele cant play for France...

They'll all rip their contracts up.
As for Spurs it’s nothing to do with Levy
He’s only an employee who does what he’s told

As it stands, there’s only 6 non-English teams mooted to be involved. There’s still absolutely loads of quality European teams who would still be involved in the “normal” UEFA comps. Plenty of whom have long standing pedigree and history.

I’m sure if this break away did happen (which I very much doubt will), the CL and EL would still continue with teams including those below, and the fixtures would offer much more variety and would definitely be much more interesting

Bayern Munich
Dortmund
Leipzig
Wolfsburg
Sevilla
Bilbao
Villarreal
PSG
Lille
Monaco
Atalanta
Napoli
Roma
Lazio
Ajax
PSV
Feyenoord
AZ
Porto
Sporting
Benfica
Anderlecht
Brugge
Antwerp
Besiktas
Fenerbahce
Galatasaray
Salzburg
Rapid Vienna
Olympiakos
Panathinaikos
AEK Athens
Celtic
Rangers
Young Boys
Basel
Lokomotiv
Zenit St Petersburg
CSKA Moscow
Spartak
Scandinavian teams
Eastern bloc teams

I can only imagine Perez and the owners of the top clubs were all in a beer garden yesterday with the restrictions easing. A few pints later and someone calls a few bags in.

Fast forward to 3am and they’re all in John Henry’s kitchen.

Kroenke, rubbing his top gum vigourosly:

“What we need to do right.. what we’ll do, we set up our own league, yeah. We take our players and our fans and our stadiums right, and set it up ourselves. Who’s gonna stop us?”

18 hours later and that anxiety has well and truly crept in. Phones have been turned on flight mode, the lot.

Not sure if this has already been posted, but this is the full (I think) chat from Gary Neville. Got to say, well done to him, and Keane and Richards, for saying what they did.

Blimey, well said Gary Neville. Absolutely spot on.

Personal highlight, towards the end "relegate Man Utd, RS, Arsenal; they are the history of the game, they should be punished the most. Man City, Chelsea have come in with new money, don't get me wrong I'm not happy with them either, Tottenham, I don't care about Tottenham" CS53643138LONDON-ENGLAND-.webp

one interesting note. There appears to be an assumption from the 12 that another 6 will be humbled and honoured to join them each season on some sort of qualification basis.

I suspect that is a stretch, especially if there are consequences (such as a uefa ban) for doing it
